  • I've been hooked on this audiobook service for a while now, and it's rare that I can't take my earbuds out. 'America's First Daughter: A Novel' was not only informative, but also educational. The narrator did an outstanding job with the storytelling. I highly recommend this book to all historical fiction lovers out there.
  • This book had an engaging and informative storyline that introduced me to a wealth of historical details I was unfamiliar with. Although it took some time for the plot to develop, once it did, I found myself unable to stop listening. I particularly appreciated Jefferson's emphasis on the significance of family. Patsy, the protagonist, was truly a remarkable woman who selflessly dedicated her life to assisting her father, even at the expense of her own happiness. The narrative shed light on the harsh reality of how husbands would mistreat their wives, viewing them as mere possessions. While I typically enjoy Cassandra Campbell's narration, this time it fell a bit short. Her Southern accent felt forced and unnatural. Nevertheless, I intend to keep the audiobook and revisit it in the future to fully absorb all the rich content it has to offer. Overall, it was definitely worth using a credit for! Thumbs up! 😊
  • I'm honestly surprised by the amount of positive reviews this book has received. I actually managed to finish the entire thing, which took me nearly a full day of listening, and I must say I was consistently disappointed throughout. The storyline felt overly dramatic, and I didn't really gain much knowledge about the historical time period or Jefferson himself, aside from his affair with Sally Hemings. The author's note only added to my disappointment, as it mentioned all the things that were left out. However, for me, those details were the essence of Patsy's story and would have elevated the novel to a five-star rating. It wasn't the writing style or the narrator that bothered me, but rather the lack of significant events in the plot, aside from a whiny and weak "heroine" who simply adored her father and had a terrible husband. The most enjoyable aspect of the book was the portrayal of Paris and the fabricated love story with William. Honestly, I think the story would have been better off as pure fiction, focusing solely on the life of a diplomat's wife in the late 18th century.
  • I absolutely loved this book! I just wish I could have resisted the temptation to spoil myself repeatedly. It's always a challenge when diving into books centered around historical figures, isn't it?
  • The narration in this audiobook is truly terrible. All four of us in the car unanimously agreed that we should just turn it off. We endured it for a couple of hours, but it was undeniably dreadful. It reached a point where we couldn't help but crack jokes about the characters and their absurd accents.
  • Wowza! I had a tough time getting past the sugary-sweet Southern dialect, and I'm from the South myself! Give me a break! It was a bit too much melodrama for my taste, and I'm a huge fan of "Gone with the Wind"! This one was just a gust of hot air.
  • Martha Jefferson Randolph is an incredibly intriguing character from history. The narration is solid, although it does have a slower pace. However, I had no trouble at all listening to the entire audiobook on x1.5 speed.
  • This book is absolutely captivating right from the beginning. I was thoroughly engrossed and found myself devouring it with great enthusiasm. Not only was it highly entertaining, but it also provided me with a wealth of knowledge. I couldn't put it down and was eagerly turning the pages, yearning to uncover what would happen next. The authors truly did a remarkable job with this novel, and I am eagerly anticipating their next masterpiece!
