This book has been a game-changer for my relationship with both my daughters and my wife.
To give you some context, my older daughter was so considerate that she made sure her mom and two aunts approved of her boyfriend before introducing him to me. Then, she sought my approval before officially dating him. I have to say, he's a cool young man, and I respect him for doing better than I did at his age.
Aside from the positive impact on my relationship with my daughters, this book has also deepened my understanding of my wife and the role her father played in her life. He did an outstanding job, and I've learned how to enhance my wife's love and affection for me by emulating the example he set as a "real man" in her eyes.
This audiobook effectively emphasizes and highlights the emotions and actions that one should prioritize but often neglects. Personally, I was aware of the significance of expressing affection and love to my daughters, but after listening to this book, I have taken it to heart and implemented it more consistently.
The book feels a little old-fashioned when it comes to gender stereotypes. It contains plenty of personal anecdotes, which I assume were meant to be endearing and relatable, but lacks in practical advice for developing real-life parenting skills. However, the author does come across as a genuinely caring and engaged father.
I strongly disliked this book. A significant portion of it focuses on advocating for abstinence until marriage for daughters. The author is overly cautious and sensitive when it comes to his wife and daughters. There is a disturbing incident where he seems unfazed while witnessing horses mating in the presence of his 8-year-old daughter. The author comes across as wealthy and accomplished, making it challenging for him to relate to the average working man. It may be more appropriate for his wife to write a book on how to maintain a provider-type husband.
I really enjoyed this audiobook! It kicks off with this strong and confident vibe of a tough guy raising a daughter, but as the book goes on, the author's tone shifts towards more understanding and empathy. The way he writes reminds me of how I can picture myself being when my daughter is born - trying to stay strong, but ultimately being completely won over by my little princess from the very first moment I hold her. By the end, I found myself tearing up. I'm truly grateful for the wisdom shared in this book!
I couldn't get through this book. The author's concepts are oversimplified and not effectively conveyed. It's not beneficial to hear anecdotes about his own children. There's not a single profound or insightful idea.
