I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one. The first part focuses on the complexities of teenage romance, while the second part explores the process of coping with those complexities. The narrator does a remarkable job, although there are instances where he slips up and forgets the distinct accents assigned to each character. Despite my 3-star rating for the story, I'm still inclined to pick up the next book because I'm already halfway through the series.
If they had trimmed about a third of the book, I might have enjoyed it more.... The story itself was pretty good.... It just felt a bit slow in certain parts.
The sequel, 'Beautiful Darkness', keeps up with its fantastic concepts and captivating plot, yet it tends to repeat and elaborate on certain aspects excessively, resulting in a slower pace compared to its predecessor.
I found 'Beautiful Darkness' to be quite sluggish and honestly, I couldn't have cared less about what unfolded in the story. It failed to captivate my attention, causing my mind to wander even during supposedly thrilling or gripping moments. I lacked interest to even bother rewinding the parts that I missed. The sole reason I persevered until the end was to discover Lena's destiny, but alas, I was left feeling disappointed.
If a third book in the series were to be released, I believe I'll give it a pass. My investment in these characters has waned significantly.
