The beginning of the book was strong, but it quickly became clear that it was a coming of age story that focused heavily on anxiety attacks. The main theme of the book revolved around managing reactive behavior and trying to understand one's emotions. In simpler terms, an eleventh grader struggles to answer a basic question - do they actually like the person in question or not? This book would have resonated more with me if I had read it during middle school, but now it seems incredibly immature. While there was a romantic subplot, the main focus was on handling panic and building personal confidence. The ending felt sudden and incomplete, but considering the target audience of middle school readers, they might have been satisfied to see the boy and girl as a genuine couple at a real party. There were glaring plot holes throughout the story. Unless I misunderstood, this book is meant to be a standalone novel, so it's perplexing why so many loose ends were left unresolved. Even a slight suggestion of closure would have sufficed, but it seems like that was too much to ask for. On a positive note, Caitlin Kelly's narration was fantastic!

I absolutely adored this book and I could easily see myself picking it up for a reread multiple times. It has a certain resonance that hits close to home for me.

This book quickly became one of my all-time favorites when I discovered it back in seventh grade. I was completely captivated by the story and couldn't put it down. Even after multiple readings, I never tire of experiencing it again and again.
