Summary

Half-shifter Shaya Critchley may hold a submissive role in her wolf pack, but the petite redhead refuses to let an Alpha male interfere in her life. Furious and humiliated after her mate refused to claim her, she runs off to hide among the humans. Why wait around for an Alpha male to love her when he’d obviously prefer to ignore her? Nick Axton can barely control his urges for Shaya, but the Alpha can never claim her — not if he truly cares for her. His degenerative brain condition will eventually destroy him, and he’s afraid of turning his mate into his caretaker. Yet when Shaya runs away, Nick can’t let her go. He pursues her, vowing to finally claim his rightful mate. And despite Shaya’s spirited and passionate resistance, Nick’s fiery determination just might be the ultimate aphrodisiac.

  • I hardly ever write reviews, and I never write them while I'm still in the midst of experiencing the books, but I just can't believe how much of a difficult person the main character is. I genuinely enjoyed Shaya in Spiral of Need, but it's hard to fathom that this is the same individual. This book needs a heads-up about the presence of infidelity and someone being punished out of resentment. They both acknowledge that they are destined mates, yet while he's attempting to prove his trustworthiness, SHE PURPOSEFULLY DATES ANOTHER GUY. And he still treats her with kindness afterwards! He's an outstanding guy while she treats him poorly. And to top it off, the next morning she has the audacity to be suspicious of him! I kind of regret purchasing this book because it completely shattered my perception of a character whom I genuinely admired in a previous book. Other than that, the narrator is fantastic, as always.
  • I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first two, but it was still an engaging audiobook. It could have been even better if it weren't for the awful nickname "Beavis," which really put a damper on my mood. Every time I heard it, I couldn't help but cringe! It was particularly jarring during a sex scene, completely ruining the moment for me. Nevertheless, the book itself is well-written and the narration, courtesy of the talented Jill Redfield, deserves a solid five-star rating. I'm grateful for Redfield's amazing performance, as she managed to make the word "Beavis" slightly less cringeworthy and brought the characters to life.
  • You don't need to have read the previous books in order to grasp this one. It simply enhances your understanding of the other characters who have a minor role in the story. Suzanne Wright does a fantastic job in crafting the narrative and developing the characters. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Jill Redfield and her amazing narration skills. She has one of the most captivating voices I've ever heard. The way she distinguishes between the characters while telling the story is impressive; it doesn't feel like she's just reading off the pages. The story itself is incredibly engaging and holds your attention throughout. I'm eagerly looking forward to diving into the next installment. I really adore this series because it strikes the perfect balance – not too lengthy, yet not too short. Once I'm done with "The Phoenix Pack," I'll be moving on to the "Mercury Pack."
  • I'm not sure if I'll continue with this series, even though it's easy to listen to. I'm getting a bit tired of the same narrator for every couple. It would be fine if there were a male and female narrator, but hearing the female narrator say "fuuuuuuuuuck" while the man is having sex is just too much. I usually don't mind having just a female narrator, but she shouldn't have to narrate the male's point of view during a sex scene. Every time there was a sex scene, I cringed and even laughed out loud because I knew what was coming. It was seriously cringe-worthy and not what I expected during a sex scene. Despite the descriptive nature of the scenes, I couldn't engage with them because of the way they were narrated. If there's going to be dialogue during a love scene, there should be two narrators or it should be told only from the female's point of view. Having a female narrate for the male just isn't sexy.
  • I found this particular book to be an improvement compared to the previous one. However, it didn't captivate me enough to continue reading the rest of the series. These books are undeniably steamy and sizzling, but they suffer from a fair amount of repetition. Additionally, it irked me that the narrator used the same voice for all the male protagonists. All in all, the story follows the classic "Alpha male" and "feisty female" formula, leading to rather lackluster plots. If that doesn't bother you, then these books are decent reads. They can be a good option to fill the gaps between your preferred series.
  • I bought this audiobook that includes two stories, and I found both of them equally entertaining. The narration took the story to a whole new level, making it even more enjoyable. I'm definitely planning to listen to this book a few more times. It's absolutely worth using a credit on.
