Summary
A chance encounter between two lonely women leads to a passionate romance in this lesbian cult classic. Therese, a struggling young sales clerk, and Carol, a homemaker in the midst of a bitter divorce, abandon their oppressive daily routines for the freedom of the open road, where their love can blossom. But their newly discovered bliss is shattered when Carol is forced to choose between her child and her lover.
Some parts of this audiobook felt a bit slow, but the characters were absolutely captivating and a large chunk of it was written in a stunningly beautiful manner.
I found the pace of the story to be quite slow, which made it difficult for me to fully engage with it. Despite this, I pushed myself to reach the end.
The book 'Carol - The Price of Salt' goes beyond just beautiful writing about love and brilliantly portrays the challenges faced by LGBT individuals during the mid-20th century. It is outstanding in its own right, excelling in all aspects. It breaks free from any categorization, surpassing any limitations of genre. Personally, I'm not a fan of romance novels, but this one truly blew me away.
