I gotta say, this book is absolutely amazing! It's not just a regular friendship story, it's an extraordinary one that really touches your heart. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar really does justice to Coach Wooden with his incredible storytelling skills.
Kareem, thank you for sharing your genuine feelings about Coach. Even though I was aware of your basketball prowess and intelligence, I had no idea about your capacity for kindness and understanding. This book has truly touched me on a deeper level, making me more compassionate and introspective. Gratitude for this eye-opening experience!
I really loved how deep their friendship was and how open they were about their vulnerabilities, despite coming from completely different backgrounds and having different life experiences.
No doubt about it, this book is absolutely fantastic. I was already a fan of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's writing after reading the Mycroft and Holmes books (seriously, go check them out), but this was my first experience with his non-fiction work.
Reading this book truly made me admire his talent as both a writer and a storyteller. He skillfully navigates the delicate balance between portraying real people and their genuine relationships. The chapter on grief, especially given recent events in my life, resonated deeply with me and nearly brought me to tears on three separate occasions.
If you're a fan of heartwarming stories about friendship, then this is a must-read. If you crave inspiration, look no further than this book. And if you're a basketball enthusiast, trust me, this is the perfect book for you. Heck, even if you're not typically a reader, I guarantee you'll find yourself flipping through the pages of this book.
Can you tell I wholeheartedly recommend and adore this book? 😂
This book is absolutely incredible, full of stories that truly make an impact on your life. The connection between Coach and Kareem is something special, and it's so heartwarming to see Kareem open up about his time with Coach that it brought me to tears, both from laughter and emotion. It's comforting to know that both of them faced challenges, and despite Coach's imperfections, he remained a highly respected man.
This audiobook is absolutely amazing! It's genuine, smart, emotional, outstanding, authentic, and motivating. I can't stress enough how great it is. The narrator did an amazing job, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is truly a national treasure, just like his mentor.
As someone who has coached high school for a while, I've delved into numerous Coach Wooden books and always come away with new knowledge. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's book follows in the same vein. It's a heartfelt and thought-provoking voyage that resonates with me.
Overall, I thought the book was solid, but it definitely delved into politics and religion frequently. My intention in buying the book was to gain insight into Coach Wooden from a player's point of view, but I felt that the focus shifted more towards racial inequality and injustice, instead of being solely about the inspiring friendship of two remarkable individuals. I do recognize that this topic holds significance for the author, but the extensive political digressions detracted from an otherwise well-written book.
Kareem's narration in "Coach Wooden and Me: Our 50-Year Friendship on and off the Court" was incredibly soothing and skillfully composed. His ability to share captivating stories about others while illuminating the present moment is truly remarkable.
Much appreciation to Kareem, also known as "The GOAT."
