Can you believe how amazing this book is, despite the awful narration? MB deserves major props for saving the day. The story is all about incredible bravery, and what's really cool is that the hero is a character who's always been on the fringes of the KGI series. Hancock has always fascinated me. Just like Steele, he's mysterious, dangerous, and super intense - the perfect recipe for a seriously attractive alpha male. His leading lady, Honor Cambridge, is whip-smart and immensely likable. I was completely hooked on this story and practically listened to it all in one go. The only downside was the narration. TB was way too over-dramatic, yelling for no reason, doing terrible female voices, and his pace was a bit slow at times. Despite all that, I still adored this book and wouldn't mind listening to it again right away. I highly recommend it for romantics who crave a little action.
No spoilers, but I've listened to the entire series and I was disappointed when Harry left after book 5. Adam Paul did a decent job with PJ's story, but he changed all the voices. This new guy not only did great voices, but he managed to mimic Harry's version of Rio, Sam, and others, as well as Adam Paul's version of PJ and Cole. His voice talent is amazing. I have no idea why someone would put in the effort to do this, but I was grateful. The Russians actually sounded like Russians, and the Southern accents were spot on. The story in this book was much stronger than books 8 and 9, and I really enjoyed the ride. It had that classic KGI feel all the way through. But now... where is Rusty? We haven't heard a peep from her. Maya, please give us the next book soon! Overall, it was a great story, especially if you're a fan of the slightly cheesy Kellys like I am. And of course, Garrett's curses are always a welcome addition. Phew! I always need some Garrett in my life.
I really enjoyed the previous books in the KGI series, but "Darkest Before Dawn" didn't quite live up to my expectations. It lacked the same level of romance and action that I've come to love in the other books. However, despite this, I still have a fondness for it. It's just that my love for the others is a bit stronger.
