  • I found the plot of "Death's Mistress: The Nicci Chronicles, Book 1" to be quite predictable and lacking originality, all the way until the end. In comparison to the author's previous works, I felt that the storyline was too simplistic and the characters lacked depth and realism. However, despite these drawbacks, I did manage to enjoy the final chapters and I still plan on reading the second book. Terry Goodkind has a unique way of captivating readers with his own magical touch. I must mention that while listening to this audiobook, which happened to be my first by Goodkind on this platform, I often found myself getting distracted by the narration.
  • I personally found 'Death's Mistress: The Nicci Chronicles, Book 1' to be quite enjoyable, and I believe it is on par with the quality of the earlier Sword of Truth books. In my opinion, the last few books in the series were a bit lacking. However, this one delivers a good dose of adventure and action, while also expanding our understanding of the Sword of Truth universe. The pacing is nice, and the characters are well-developed. At first, Nicci comes across as unlikeable, but as the story progresses, she becomes more likeable and even beloved. The author does a great job portraying the rough edges and constant self-examination, which really resonates with the reader as the story unfolds. The climax sequences are nicely executed, and there are some truly moving moments throughout. As for the narration, it is average at best. There are some minor mispronunciations, inconsistencies in pronouncing character and place names, peculiar inflections, and the pace is a bit slow. It would have been better if the narration was slightly faster. Overall, the audiobook is pretty good and sets the stage for an interesting new adventure in the next book.
  • I've been eagerly anticipating this book for ages and I must say it lived up to my expectations. Although the narrator wasn't fantastic, the story itself was incredibly engaging. It's definitely a strong beginning for this new series.
