Summary
The unseen assailant attacked Dr. Miranda Jones outside her Maine home as she returned from a busy lecture tour. After terrorizing her with a knife held to her throat, he stole her purse, slashed her tires, and disappeared. Shaken and bruised, Miranda was determined to put the assault out of her mind, and welcomed the distraction offered by a summons to Italy to verify the authenticity of a Renaissance bronze of a Medici courtesan known as The Dark Lady. However, instead of cementing Miranda's reputation as a leading authority in her field, the bronze nearly destroys it when her professional judgment is called into question and the bronze is declared a hoax. Desperate to restore her credibility and prove The Dark Lady is really a previously unknown work of Michelangelo, Miranda turns to Ryan Boldari, a seductive - and supposedly reformed - art thief. For Miranda, forced to rely on herself and a partner with his own hidden agenda, the only way home is filled with treachery, deception, and a danger that threatens everything she loves.
I totally dug Montana Sky by Roberts and the narration by Leigh, so I snagged a copy of Homeport. Gotta say, the story didn't quite hook me like Montana Sky did. The protagonist got on my nerves a bit, and it would've been cool if the women in Roberts' stories had goals beyond just tying the knot.
To be honest, it took some time to really get into 'Homeport', but wow, the ending blew me away. I'm a big fan of this author and her books never disappoint.
I'm a huge fan of Nora Roberts and her series of books never disappoint. I always look forward to the perfect blend of suspense, humor, and intrigue that she consistently delivers. "Homeport" was no exception, and I absolutely loved it. I must also commend the narrator for doing an excellent job bringing the story to life.
The abridged version is not worth the time it takes to listening to it. The characters were not developed properly, the entire story jumped around and I found it entirely boring, especially since I knew the outcome from the start. Guy meets gal and get together in the end. Perhaps the unabridged version could have some potential, but that wasn't offered.
Nora Roberts has always been near the top of my author's lists. This one proved to be right up there with the rest. A short but very sweet story with a great twist!
