Summary
What should be a cozy and fun-filled weekend deep in the English countryside takes a sinister turn in Ruth Ware's suspenseful, compulsive, and darkly twisted psychological thriller.
The majority of the story is narrated through the main character's internal thoughts, which unfortunately becomes a bit tiresome. The limited range of the characters and their halting conversations become monotonous, resulting in more boredom than excitement. The outcome of the story becomes quite predictable, and there is an excess of overthinking with insufficient narrative drive. Nevertheless, the audiobook features a truly impressive performance.
This audiobook was a bit of a drag, with a slow and monotonous narration that felt repetitive and ultimately left me feeling bored. I have to admit, I regret spending my hard-earned money on this one. However, the saving grace of the whole experience was the fantastic performance by Ms. Church.
