Summary

The book takes off from his previous story of the Appalachian Trail. The author in this particular book describes his experience in Australia which has some of the driest weather all the year round. The book explores the dry and arid countryside of the continent along with some of the most lethal evidence which can be found in the countryside.

Bill Bryson takes us on a fun-filled ride which crisscrosses between the beauty of this southern continent and at the same point in time, keeps us well aware of the dangers which are possessed by the continents. Australia is home to some of the nastiest creatures which can be found in the countryside. The list does not just end of the land-based animals and reptiles but also the water is infested with them. In spite of that, the author provides us with a favorable look of the continent as well as the countryside.

The fact-filled and funny journey through the Australian countryside is what makes this book much more appealing rather than the facts about the killers you will find in the countryside. The author does not fail to highlight the hospitality of the Australian citizens who are not only extroverts but also pretty cheerful to welcome anyone in their fold. The entire book is not just focused on the countryside but rather focuses the limelight on also some of the biggest and cleanest cities in the world.

With the help of this guide, you will be able to get a glimpse into the cities of Australia and move to the countryside to find out what the country is all about.

Review

Personally, I thought that humor is what ties this book together. The entire trip has been well articulated which makes it an entertaining read. At times, however, you feel bored with the stuff which the author has included other than the trip. As long as, the author is sticking to the trip, the book is pretty entertaining and exploratory.

One of the best things about this book is that it explores the Australian continents through many different regions which provide you with the holistic view of the continent rather than just looking at the cities. In a Sunburned Country Audiobook by Bill Bryson helps you explore Australia in an entirely new light. It provides you a glimpse of the entire Australian continent rather than the selective few spaces. In a Sunburned Country Audiobook is an entertaining listen due to the sense of humor of the author which makes it a light audiobook. If you are interested in the read, you can easily get the In a Sunburned Country Audiobook online.

  • I've never been down under, but after reading this book, I'm itching to experience all that Oz has to offer! Bill Bryson truly shines in "In a Sunburned Country," with his keen powers of observation, masterful descriptions, and trademark humor that never fails to entertain.
  • This travel book deserves the highest praise because I have either lived in or visited many of the locations mentioned, and it beautifully captures the essence of the country and its people. While there are no particularly extraordinary events, Australia is portrayed as exceptionally remarkable. The narration is superb, and it's a shame that the book had to come to an end.
  • I really enjoy Bryson's books, but I found the narrator of this one to be excessively loud and it really detracted from my enjoyment. I had to stop listening to it because it was just too much.
  • Author Bill Bryson said in A Sunburned Country there were more things in Australia that could end your life than anywhere else in the world. Picture proves his point. Great, hilarious book BTW.
  • Miss last night's Book Discussion. Join us Jun 7 at 7pm for the next one. The book will be In a Sunburned Country by billbryson and can be picked up at the main desk.
  • Graham - I've been reading "In a Sunburned Country" (2000) by Bill Bryson wherein Bryson reports a few stunning and "history changing" archaeological finds in Australia that seem to tell a VERY old story indeed. Made me think of your work.
  • I read Bryson's book, "In a Sunburned Country", which I realize is not truly representative, but felt like it gave a nice glimpse into the overall diversity...Less people...That part sounds not so bad...
  • Just finished reading In The Sunburned Country. I actually feel like I just finished touring Australia with a witty billbrysonn as a tour guide. What a great book! Highly recommended.
