Normally, I don't write reviews because I prefer to spend my time actually listening to the books. However, I felt compelled to share my thoughts this time because I have such immense admiration for the author and the personal and political memoir he shared. It's frustrating how the media often misrepresents and misunderstands individuals like him who are truly outstanding Americans. This memoir is exceptionally well-written and provides a comprehensive account, not only of Dick Cheney's life, but also the historical context behind the headlines. If you're a fan of Ronald Reagan, you'll definitely appreciate this captivating story too.
This guy was a real heavy-hitter in American politics. He had his hands in all sorts of game-changing situations. And despite all that, his life was surprisingly down-to-earth and uncomplicated.
This book is a total gem, a must-read. It's no walk in the park to hold high-level positions for over three decades. Life isn't always as simple as black and white, right and wrong. What about our loved ones? Our well-being? Shouldn't they be our top priority? Keep reading and discover the answers. I promise you won't be disappointed. Gill.
This book is like a sugary outer layer covering up the true narrative. Cheney attempts to present himself as an ordinary person... But trust me, he falls short! Don't waste your hard-earned cash.
Wow, can you believe it? Is Mr. Cheney really that desperate for cash that he had to re-release his initial book? I'm currently making my way through the first part of the trilogy, and let me tell you, it's just a recycled version of his latest book. I can't help but feel a little cheated. Hopefully, things will start to improve soon!
While I understand that not everyone may be fond of him, I'm the kind of person who is open to hearing someone out and understanding their perspective. In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir does an excellent job of recounting his personal journey and providing insights into his time in the political world.
As someone who was skeptical of Cheney's stances during his time as Vice President, I thought this book would provide some valuable insight. Similar to Rumsfeld's memoir, neither man seems to take much responsibility for failures, instead placing blame on others, while readily claiming credit for successes. One of the most revealing aspects of Cheney's story is his criticism of the abuse of power by Nixon's staff, yet when it comes to his own power, he justifies similar transgressions.
Cheney may be a staunch patriot, but he strongly believes that things must be done his way, or they are simply wrong. While he respects firearms, his approach to America's global position is to use weapons to completely destroy any and all enemies. In his view, diplomacy is seen as a sign of weakness. He firmly believes that if you possess weapons, you should not hesitate to use them - and quickly at that.
After reading this book, I am even more convinced that Mr. Cheney's viewpoints are deeply flawed. Each listener will interpret and hear what they want from this book. For me, it highlighted a man who sees the United States not as a peacekeeper, but as a police force tasked with enforcing our laws on a global scale.
As a Republican myself, I was naturally inclined to be a fan of the author. However, this book has truly exceeded my expectations. What President Bush and Vice President Cheney accomplished during their second term was absolutely remarkable. They deliberately used up all their political leverage, fully aware that they didn't actually need it. President Bush made a strategic choice in selecting a running mate who had no intention of running for office again, which meant they had nothing to lose. Consequently, they concluded their term as the target of endless jokes and everyone's favorite scapegoat.
They consistently stood by their convictions, even when they faced widespread disapproval. There are certain issues of immense importance and confidentiality where it is simply not feasible for the American public to make fully informed decisions. This is precisely why our constitution was designed to establish a republic rather than a democracy.
Dick Cheney, I extend my sincerest gratitude for your years of devoted service and for not seeking popularity in the pursuit of serving our nation alongside the President. Your selfless dedication has undeniably contributed to making our country safer and more prosperous.
