Summary
He lives in solitude beneath the city, an exile from society, which will destroy him if he is ever seen. She dwells in seclusion, a fugitive from enemies who will do her harm if she is ever found. But the bond between them runs deeper than the tragedies that have scarred their lives. Something more than chance — and nothing less than destiny — has brought them together in a world whose hour of reckoning is fast approaching. In Innocence, #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz blends mystery, suspense, and acute insight into the human soul in a masterfully told tale that will resonate with listeners forever.
Dean Koontz is hands down one of my favorite authors. I've devoured every single one of his books, except for the Odd Thomas series which just didn't strike a chord with me. However, whenever Dean releases a new book, I don't think twice before adding it to my collection. As per my usual Koontz reading ritual, I started "Innocence" without even glancing at the synopsis.
I gave the audiobook a solid two-hour listen, but eventually I had to throw in the towel. I finally turned to my son and admitted, "I can't go on like this any longer." It got to the point where I found myself mindlessly scrolling through Facebook while the book was still playing. The story itself was dragging at an excruciatingly slow pace, and to make matters worse, it was painfully dull.
