This audiobook felt really well-rounded. The backstory was given just as much importance as the rock star narrative. There was a genuine authenticity to it that I appreciated. Overall, I had a great time listening to it.
I gotta say, out of all the rock biographies I've listened to, this one takes the cake. It's all about chasing your dreams, sisterhood, and never giving up in a world that's mostly dominated by men. And let me tell you, having Anna Nancy herself narrate the whole thing just added that extra touch of awesomeness. I can't recommend this book enough. It's the real deal.
I first came across Heart in the 80s, but I developed a deep appreciation for the poetic nature of their music from the 70s. It's a real honor to have personal connections with some of the original band members, particularly Alan Lund (may he rest in peace). It's truly amazing to listen to their firsthand account of their experiences in the music industry, as shared by Anne, Nancy, and the rest of the band. I want to express my gratitude for the decades of incredible music they've given us. Their immense contribution and unwavering passion have left an indelible impact on this world.
I absolutely loved this book about the band I adored during my teenage years in the 70s and 80s. Their music has always been my jam, so getting to know the story behind the band was truly awesome. I had a blast reading it.
This biography is fantastic, and what makes it even more incredible are the Wilson sisters and their pals who join in as narrators. It truly adds to the enjoyment of the book to hear the contributors sharing their stories in their own voices as part of the narration.
It's a bit of a letdown that there are no accompanying pictures, but overall, this audiobook is still absolutely wonderful.
This epic band's story is definitely a must-read, worth every minute spent. I had the incredible opportunity to see Heart live at the Xcel Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 13, 2019, and it was absolutely worth it!
This book is packed with anecdotes and insights shared by Ann and Nancy Wilson, as well as the determination that fueled their quest to meet their idols and the backstory of their youthful dreams of fame coming full circle as they embark on a journey back to where it all began. Discover the inspiration behind their most popular songs and their journey to sobriety after battling addiction in order to navigate the demanding and often unforgiving music industry. While the book follows the familiar pattern of a music career facing ups and downs, what truly sets it apart is the deep and personal connection with the authors, Ann and Nancy, which makes you feel as if you could simply reach out and give them a hug. Trust me, it's a worthwhile read. It certainly was for me.
I absolutely adored every aspect of this book. The fact that Ann and Nancy themselves narrated it was a major plus for me. If their singing career ever comes to an end, Ann could easily pursue a successful career as a narrator. Her voice is absolutely captivating. I genuinely appreciated the fascinating historical insights and behind-the-scenes anecdotes about one of the most legendary bands of all time. These incredible and tenacious women have truly won my heart!
If you're a fan of Heart or just a rock enthusiast, you absolutely need to give 'Kicking and Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul, and Rock and Roll' a listen! Ann and Nancy Wilson's journey, as detailed in this memoir, is truly one of the top-notch reads out there. It's not only a treat for Heart fans, but also a touching tale of family and the unbreakable bonds that exist.
