  • This audiobook is your typical post-apocalyptic thriller, where exceptionally gifted teenagers fight against a corrupt government conspiracy. Honestly, the storyline may be a little predictable, but the characters are quite enjoyable. There's a sweet little romance that adds some charm. If you're looking for something to read and don't know what to pick, this is worth a shot. Personally, I wasn't blown away enough to invest in the rest of the series.
  • Legend is the epitome of typical teenage junk food in the realm of contemporary YA dystopian novels. It falls short in terms of depth and fails to provide any real satisfaction. I personally had high expectations for dystopian books, hoping for fresh and unique concepts about the potential disintegration of society. However, I must acknowledge the author, Marie Lu, for managing to sell a storyline that has been overused for years - the military state and experiments on the underprivileged - which left me feeling rather bored and unimpressed. Moreover, the lack of exceptional prose further dampened my enthusiasm for this series. On the bright side, the book does have its merits - it is fast-paced and features acceptable prose. Given that the main characters are only 15, it is possible that the target audience is junior high students, where this book might be more acceptable. However, considering the vast number of outstanding YA dystopian novels available today, such as The Maze Runner, Divergent, Delirium, and The Hunger Games, I question the value of investing your time in this unimaginative tale. In terms of the audiobook, I was disappointed by the performance of both narrators. Neither of them added any significant value to the novel. The female narrator, in particular, let me down when it came to conveying the emotions associated with the death of someone she cared about - it was delivered in the same monotonous manner as any other line.
