Summary
Entrepreneur Jesse Itzler will try almost anything. He brazenly pretended to be an established hip-hop artist to secure a meeting with a studio head-and it led to a record deal. He convinced a bunch successful business executives to invest in an unprecedented business plan- and it turned into Marquis Jet. He sincerely offered to run a 100-mile race in Spanx to get the attention of the beautiful founder of the company-and ended up marrying her.
After reading "Living with a SEAL: 31 Days Training with the Toughest Man on the Planet," I became eager to delve into David Goggins' personal account. It was truly motivating, although I must admit that there were moments where it seemed somewhat exaggerated and resembling a caricature.
The buzz surrounding this book is way more exciting than the actual reading experience. As I delved into each chapter, I found myself eagerly anticipating that "Aha!" moment where I would gain some valuable insight. But if you really want some captivating content, I suggest checking out the videos about the SEAL on YouTube instead. Trust me, they're a lot more interesting.
Jesse Itzler is definitely a successful guy, but let me tell you, this book leaves a lot to be desired. After hearing Jesse Itzler on a podcast and seeing all the rave reviews, I didn't even think twice before purchasing it. However, I really should have paid more attention to those negative reviews. I'm almost positive that all those glowing 5-star reviews were either paid for or sponsored. And if you don't believe me, well, just give this book a listen like I did. Trust me, it's pretty awful.
This audiobook is so addictive that you won't want it to end. I started listening to it during my usual 3-5 mile run, and by the time I reached the 5 mile mark, I just kept going. How far did I go? Over 20 miles! Even after finishing my run, I couldn't stop and continued walking until I finished the entire audiobook.
I've decided to listen to it every other day while running to push myself even harder. It's like having a personal trainer or drill sergeant by my side, motivating me throughout my run. The advice and nuggets of wisdom go beyond just physical performance - they can be applied to many aspects of life and help improve them.
If you're looking to make a significant change in your life, this book is a must-read. Trust me, you'll thank both me and the author for sharing his incredible story!
As someone who has served alongside US Marine Special Forces, I can confirm that these individuals are in a league of their own. This book provides an in-depth look into the mindset of an unstoppable warrior. If I had to take a guess, I would say Goggans might be the SEAL mentioned in the book. However, the author's identity doesn't really matter because the content is incredibly captivating. After reading this book, I've been motivated to log 36 miles this week, and I can honestly attribute part of that to the inspiration it provided. Absolutely spot on!
I've owned this audiobook for less than a year and I've already given it a spin four times. And I'll most likely give it a few more listens before this year wraps up. I can't explain it, but somehow they managed to blend comedy and motivation in a way that stands out from the rest.
I couldn't make it very far into this book. There was just way too much profanity for my taste, which I found disrespectful. It had potential to be a good read though.
The main character came across as someone who didn't really take life seriously enough. Personally, I didn't find anything in the book that really motivated or inspired me. Neither of the characters were particularly inspiring, and the daily routine fell short of my expectations.
This audiobook is incredibly inspiring in multiple aspects, and it's absolutely entertaining to hear Jesse tell his own story. I highly suggest it for anyone looking for an enjoyable listen.
Loved this book (minus the language — but I get it. That’s the way he talks). Funny, insightful and gives me an even greater sense of respect for SEALS and any military.
