  • I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge from this incredible audiobook. Both the author and the narrator did an outstanding job. It would have been great if there was a PDF file available, similar to Leonardo da Vinci's book, which included a timeline and the names of individuals mentioned in the story. I absolutely adored this book and I will definitely be listening to it multiple times to fully absorb all of its content.
  • Watch out for the overly positive reviews. I've been listening to this audiobook for over two hours now, and I'm considering putting it down for good. The subject matter is intriguing and appears to be well-researched. However, there are a couple of issues that make it hard for me to continue. Firstly, the writing is simply terrible. Metaxas has a tendency to use obscure words (keep a dictionary handy) when simpler ones would not only suffice, but also make the content more accessible. It's off-putting, at least in my opinion. On top of that, the flowery prose is filled with overly complex sentences and cliches (I believe he even compared Luther's introspection to a terrier digging for a rat; if that's not an exact quote, it's pretty close). Honestly, this author could have benefitted from a strong editor to keep his writing on track. To make matters worse, Metaxas narrates the audiobook himself. His narration isn't downright awful, but it's not great either. The phrase "over-caffeinated" comes to mind. It's a shame because the subject matter is interesting. Perhaps I'll give it another chance in small increments. Overall, very disappointing.
