  • 'The Mists of Avalon' presents a fresh perspective on the Arthurian Legend during the 5th-6th century, offering a feminist take on the narrative. The standout feature of this audiobook is the narrator, whose captivating voice aligns perfectly with the essence of the story. While the book is decently written, it falls short of the greatness claimed by some. It doesn't quite deserve a solid 3-star rating, yet it's more deserving than a mere two stars. The characters, unfortunately, proved challenging for me to connect with. The author portrays them as men grappling with their sexual identity, brimming with arrogance, religious devotion, and pride. On the other hand, the women are portrayed as self-absorbed, conceited, and personally irksome. As the story unfolds, it delves into a twisted web of intrigue and unrequited love. If you're interested in experiencing the Arthurian era through a feminist lens, this audiobook is definitely worth the single credit. Furthermore, the fact that it encompasses all four books of the series in one purchase adds even more value to the overall experience.
  • I wouldn't recommend researching the author until after you've completed the novel. However, once you do, you'll appreciate the insightful psychology behind the book. Personally, I didn't particularly enjoy this book due to its lack of emotional maturity. It's also frustrating to encounter second wave feminist viewpoints when society has progressed so much. For me, it felt like watching an addicting reality TV show - so bad, yet so captivating that you can't stop watching. If you're someone with a vivid imagination who is fascinated by the Dark Age Britain and pagan beliefs, then this book will definitely resonate with you.
  • Save yourself a solid fifty hours by just reading this summary: Gwynevere confesses her love for Lanceleot but considers it a sinful act. Meanwhile, Lancelot, torn between his love for Gwynevere and his loyalty to Arthur, wrestles with the idea of betraying his friend. Morgain, who possesses great power, finds herself in a state of confusion, unsure of whether or not to wield it. Arthur, somewhat clueless, remains in the dark about the unfolding drama. Gwynevere believes that her inability to conceive a son for Arthur is a form of divine punishment. Lancelot struggles with his love for both Gwynevere and Arthur, feeling disgusted with himself. Morgain remains confused, while Arthur remains oblivious to it all. In the end, Gwynevere becomes a nun, Lancelot meets his demise, Arthur also perishes, and Morgain is left in her perpetual state of confusion. Ugh, what a rollercoaster. So there you have it, I've just saved you a whopping fifty hours. No kidding, fifty hours of that.
  • Davina Porter brings her usual talent and emotion to guide you through the days of Arthur and his court in "The Mists of Avalon". I'm a fan of lengthy stories, and Ms. Porter never fails to captivate with her characterizations. Marion Zimmer Bradley is a fantastic storyteller, and if you're a fan of this genre, this book is a fantastic choice. These women have a magical ability to transport you out of reality and into their world. Take your time and savor every moment of "The Mists of Avalon."
