Summary
"[Odd Thomas is] one of the most remarkable and appealing characters in current fiction." - The Virginian-Pilot THERE'S ROOM AT THE INN. BUT YOU MIGHT NOT GET OUT. Nestled on a lonely stretch along the Pacific coast, quaint roadside outpost Harmony Corner offers everything a weary traveler needs - a cozy diner, a handy service station, a cluster of motel rooms . . . and the Harmony family homestead presiding over it all. But when Odd Thomas and company stop to spend the night, they discover that there's more to this secluded haven than meets the eye - and that between life and death, there is something more frightening than either. "Koontz gives [Odd Thomas] wit, good humor, a familiarity with the dark side of humanity - and moral outrage." - USA Today "Supernatural thrills with a side of laughs." - The Denver Post
The excessive descriptions in this book were a bit too much and the story itself didn't feel very believable. To speed things up, I had to increase the playback speed. It was a bit dull.
I have to be honest, I was really let down by this Interlude, and I'm a huge fan of the author. The story often feels like it's tripping over itself with failed attempts at humor, which definitely didn't tickle my funny bone. Plus, there were moments when it just seemed unnecessarily long-winded, like the author was just trying to hit a certain word count. I know I might be mistaken, but it seriously impacted my enjoyment of the novella.
Finally, after a significant delay between books, we are treated to another captivating escapade alongside Odd Thomas. Koontz has a remarkable talent for seamlessly blending heart-pounding excitement, humor, and poignant moments, creating an unbeatable formula that works like a charm every single time. 'Odd Interlude: A Special Odd Thomas Adventure' follows suit and doesn't disappoint. As always, upon reaching the conclusion of this book, I find myself yearning for even more adventures with Odd Thomas.
I liked this one way more than the previous one. I get that Odd Thomas has to face some really strange enemies, but Dean Koontz should make them somewhat realistic. Also, if he's going to mention locations from other books like "Fear the Nothing" and "Seize the Night," he should finish the third book already.
I give Dean Koontz's novel Odd Interlude: A Special Odd Thomas Adventure a solid 5-star rating. This unique addition to the series takes place right before Odd Apocalypse, so I recommend reading them in chronological order for a smooth flow. We continue to follow the journey of Odd Thomas, our heroic fry-cook, as he finds himself caught up in thrilling life-or-death moments. This captivating story keeps you on your toes with its unpredictability. If you're looking for a fast-paced read, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
I gotta say, Odd Thomas has officially hit rock bottom with this dumb story. I'm done, man. Being read to like I'm some kind of idiot, I don't even know what to say. Super let down, dude.
