  • I had high hopes for "On Dublin Street" based on its ratings and positive reviews, but it ended up being quite different from what I anticipated. It turned out to be more of a young adult novel with a heavy emphasis on sexual content. The protagonist's behavior often resembled that of a bratty teenager, as she carried around a lot of attitude. Although she had experienced a tragedy at the age of 14, it felt like she never truly matured beyond that point. Additionally, the male lead displayed contradictory traits, alternating between being kind and gentle one moment, and controlling and cursing the next. I failed to see the connection between them as there was no apparent chemistry, even after investing 6 hours into the story. Ultimately, I decided to abandon the book completely as continuing to read it would have been a waste of my time. I definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone over the age of 30, as it would likely prove to be a rather boring experience.
  • I absolutely loved this story. In my opinion, it is exceptionally well-written and executed. It completely captivated me, allowing me to genuinely connect with the characters, which is the primary goal of any "good" work of fiction. I found myself enjoying and appreciating the characters, as well as finding the overall plot and pacing of the book quite solid. While there were a few predictable moments, particularly relating to Ellie and her life, it didn't detract from my enjoyment and I wouldn't fault the book for that. The narrator did an outstanding job bringing the various characters to life, and their tone for the main character, Jocelyn, was spot-on.
  • Oh my goodness, what an incredible love story! I absolutely adored this book, and it has officially turned me into a die-hard Samantha Young fan! Honestly, I wasn't expecting it to be this good, but boy was I pleasantly surprised. Jos has had a rough upbringing, and when she moves to Scotland and meets Brendon and his sister, they truly become her support system. Especially Brendon, he's amazing. The way the story is written, you just can't stop listening. It flows effortlessly from start to finish. I never once felt the urge to skip any chapters because the story never lost its excitement or intensity. It was absolutely fantastic! And that bar fight scene with some steamy office action? Absolutely awesome! Kudos to the author! This audiobook is definitely worth buying, and I would save my credit for something else that I'm not entirely sure about. If you're a fan of romantic novels like me, then this is a must-read. Trust me, you'll love it! The narration was really impressive. I've never listened to Costello before, but she was absolutely wonderful. Her Scottish accent was spot-on, and it added so much charm to the story. Simply perfect. This has definitely become one of my favorite stories now.
  • I must say, "On Dublin Street" by Samantha Young is an absolute page-turner, a novel that you won't be able to put down and will want to listen to again. The book is full of deep emotions and features fantastic characters that you will undoubtedly adore. While there is explicit sexual content, it is tastefully written and fits well within the context of the story. Make sure to mark your calendars for May 7, 2013, when the second book in the Dublin series, "Down London Road," will be released on ebooks. After being so impressed with "Dublin Street," I even visited Samantha Young's website, where I discovered that she has signed a book deal for the third installment of the series. I'm beyond excited and can't wait for it! Is it worth using a credit? Absolutely!
  • I gotta say, this book really caught me off guard in a good way. The main character had a whole lot of issues to deal with, and let me tell you, it was no walk in the park. But somehow, it didn't get too much to handle. Sure, there were a few moments where things got a little too unbelievable and unrealistic, but all in all, it was a super heartwarming tale with a bunch of relatable characters. Gotta give props to the narrator too, she really nailed both the American and Scots accents.
  • If you're an avid audiobook listener like me, you've probably encountered this type of storyline before - one lover with a troubled past, while the other helps them overcome their demons. However, "On Dublin Street" really struck a chord with me unlike most others. Joss, seeking refuge from her past in Virginia, relocates all the way to Scotland. She keeps to herself and avoids letting anyone in... until she meets the irresistible Braden Carmichael in a cab. Typically, I lean towards mystery/romances because I tend to get bored with pure romance. But this time, the story captivated me. The sexual content and, most importantly, Braden himself, were all elements I thoroughly enjoyed. Now, onto the performance. I have a particular preference for distinct voices in romances - men sounding like men and women sounding like women. It's a tough task for a single narrator, but Paula Costello does an excellent job. Braden's Scottish accent might not be flawless, but it exudes tenderness and sexiness. That's all that really matters! Overall, I'd rate this audiobook a solid 4.5 stars. There are quite a few explicit sex scenes - I didn't keep count, but maybe around six five-minute moments. The F-word is used quite frequently. However, there is no violence. I highly recommend this hot romance to any female listeners.
