Summary
Eric Blehm, author of the award-winning The Last Season, is back with another true adventure story, The Only Thing Worth Dying For. Set in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, The Only Thing Worth Dying For chronicles the untold story of the team of Green Berets that conquered the Taliban and helped bring Hamid Karzai to power in Afghanistan. In the tradition of Black Hawk Down, The Only Thing Worth Dying For is, in the words of former Congressman Charlie Wilson (from Charlie Wilson's War), "the one book you must read if you have any hope of understanding what our fine American soldiers are up against in Afghanistan."
Personally, I have a strong emotional attachment to this operation. The book accurately depicts the operations and the unfortunate incident of CAS fratricide. The writing is excellent and the narration is captivating.
I've gotta say, the performance of "The Only Thing Worth Dying For: How Eleven Green Berets Forged a New Afghanistan" was something else. The reader really knew how to bring out the intensity with their voice. This book easily takes the crown for being the best read of 2022.
I can't believe how incredible this story is, with its firsthand accounts. Hats off to the brave individuals who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting our country.
There's an excessive amount of foul language in this audiobook. I understand that soldiers in combat often use that kind of vocabulary, but there's no need to amplify it further. As a veteran with over 20 years of experience, I've been exposed to it all. However, I won't endorse its proliferation.
These guys were the real deal when our country needed them the most! They showed incredible bravery and courage. They deserve all the blessings in the world!
I absolutely adored this book and was truly amazed by the honesty and courage displayed by these men. It's clear that they are the cream of the crop in America. Their unwavering dedication to their country and sense of duty makes them exceptional role models for each and every one of us.
This book was tough to get through, but the narrator did an incredible job conveying the story with all its harsh realities, while still maintaining a gentle and respectful tone.
A massive thank you goes out to everyone who contributed to this incredible book. We have so much love and gratitude for all of you and the immense sacrifices you've made. Eric, you've done an absolutely amazing job with this book, as well as "Fearless." You will always be our heroes.
