Summary
After killer Shelia Eddy pled guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison and Rachel Shoaf was sentenced to thirty years for second-degree murder, family, friends, investigators, and other key sources reveal the facts you would have learned if the case had gone to trial. Including specific details drawn from Rachel's confession, Pretty Little Killers looks at the crime through the eyes of the victim and killers, providing intimate testimony from the pages of Rachel's personal journal, Skylar's diary and school papers, and court records.
This book tells the heartbreaking tale of just how far "mean girls" are capable of going. It's truly chilling to witness the immense pressure and manipulation these girls exert, leading to such a tragic outcome.
I decided to give this audiobook a listen in order to gain a deeper understanding of the crime. And let me tell you, I'm still finding it hard to comprehend how two best friends could plot to murder their own close friend. The narration and writing in this audiobook were top-notch, capturing my attention throughout.
Let me start by expressing my dislike for what they call a "performance." This is a book, not a play, so I prefer it to be simply read to me. With that being said, the performance in this audiobook was dreadful. The narrator failed to capture the way teenagers actually speak. Instead, she made them come across as overly whiny no matter what they were saying. Her emphasis was completely off, and the way she read the text messages exchanged by the teens was nothing like any teenager I've ever heard. It was so disappointing that it completely ruined the entire book for me, and I couldn't wait for it to be over. Needless to say, I will never choose another audiobook narrated by this person again.
