Summary
Cybernetics (loosely translated from the Greek): “a helmsman who steers his ship to port.” Psycho-Cybernetics is a term coined by Dr. Maxwell Maltz, which means, “steering your mind to a productive, useful goal so you can reach the greatest port in the world, peace of mind.”
I made an attempt to concentrate and absorb the content of this book, just like another reviewer mentioned. I gave it several tries, but unfortunately, I found it difficult to stay engaged with the book's message due to the distracting narration by Matt Furey. Please understand, it's not personal, but I genuinely question the decision to have him narrate any audiobook. His voice lacked variation, coming across as flat and monotonous, making it challenging to maintain interest in what he was reading. The lack of expression in his delivery prevented the pitch and tone of his voice from rising and falling at appropriate moments to captivate the listener. His rendition of this book sounded disinterested, as if he was simply going through the motions. It was truly torturous to try and listen to. When authors choose narrators for their audiobooks, they should definitely ensure that the narrator's voice is not bothersome.
Psycho-Cybernetics is an exceptional book, and Maxwell Maltz's expertise and valuable content shine through. However, the version with Matt Furey as the narrator completely ruins the experience. I strongly advise against purchasing this particular version and recommend seeking out an alternative option.
In my opinion, 'Psycho-Cybernetics: Updated and Expanded' could have been even better if it had focused more on the valuable ideas and concepts it presents, rather than including excessive rambling and unnecessary fluff.
The content of this book offers valuable insights into utilizing the power of the mind to achieve favorable outcomes. Nevertheless, a significant portion of it relies on scientific claims that have yet to be substantiated. To illustrate, the author mentions a scorpion that supposedly stings itself to death when provoked, which has been debunked as an urban legend in the 90s. Despite the presence of this flawed science, the book still contains valuable information, although the inaccuracies can be off-putting while reading.
This book is absolutely incredible, giving you all the insider knowledge to take control of your life and train your mind! I initially read it around a decade ago and found it to be quite solid, but after giving the new and improved edition a listen, I can confidently say it's an absolute masterpiece!
This book is absolutely amazing, and I can't express enough gratitude for it. It serves as a fantastic reminder of the profound impact that calmness can have on our lives. It explores how we can heal from trauma, find joy, and unlock the key to happiness. It offers brilliant strategies to enhance our self-image, achieve meaningful goals, and harness the power of our positive past. The ability to cultivate compassion, self-respect, and forgiveness is truly empowering.
The author kind of muddles his point with all this woo-woo stuff. There's definitely a solid foundation, but it just gets buried under all the unnecessary extras.
While there were some sections that felt a bit slow, the book as a whole was fantastic. The insights and ideas presented are top-notch, offering valuable guidance for individuals seeking to enhance their lives and maximize their potential.
I found some intriguing ideas in the book, but towards the end, I became a bit disconnected. The introduction of concepts like ESP, life force, the sixth sense, and religion as explanations for health and recovery felt a bit outdated. While I understand it was written in a different time period, it didn't resonate with me as something relevant to the year 2020. Just my personal opinion.
