Summary

The narrator for this audiobook was not very good, which is a shame because the book itself is really good. I found it difficult to stay engaged with the story because of the narrator's performance.

I've never listened to a more dull military audiobook than 'Red Storm Rising'. It's so unengaging that I can't even bring myself to finish it. I'd prefer to listen to the sound of rust slowly forming on a metal object.
I've devoured every book by Clancy and absolutely loved them, except for "Red Storm Rising." It just didn't capture my interest and I found it excessively dull. I kept hoping for some excitement, but it fell short throughout the entire book. Maybe if I had read it during the Cold War, it would've been more intriguing. However, I personally found it incredibly tedious and almost unbearable to finish. If you haven't explored Clancy's other works, I highly recommend them as they are fantastic. Just make sure to steer clear of this one.

I couldn't care less about the fact that it's outdated and times have changed. This book is fantastic. I first read it as a young person when it was initially released, and for a few years afterwards, I would revisit it from time to time. Then, I stored it away, as everything completely shifted. After a decade or more, I stumbled upon it again and decided to give it a go with the audio version. To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed it even more than I anticipated. The audio, combined with the passage of time and detachment, truly made me recognize what a remarkable achievement this book is. I can't think of another book that presents a complete and detailed modern war story as effectively as this one. I found myself driving around for an extra hour just so I could continue listening to the next chapter. Sure, it may be outdated, but you won't find a better depiction of what could have easily happened. When this book was released, none of it felt farfetched. In fact, it was almost too accurate, from what I can recall. However, beyond all that, the storytelling is superb, the pacing is flawless, the narrative is gripping, and the audio performance is outstanding. I was never a fan of Tom Clancy, but after finishing this book, I must say, I was genuinely impressed with his storytelling abilities. He got everything right in this book. I highly recommend it.
Clancy's typical, engrossing character development is ultimately overshadowed by his evident enthusiasm for intricate descriptions of vehicles, equipment, and action. This results in a monotonous plotline.
I'm not particularly fond of Mr. Pritchard either. His portrayal of a Russian accent seems to appear sporadically. Occasionally, his tone for a single character undergoes a complete transformation. While this could be a result of editing errors, the overall audio quality is noticeably superior compared to some of the author's earlier works.
To put it simply, it's best to pass on this particular audiobook.
I gotta say, 'Red Storm Rising' is truly one of Clancy's greatest works. It's a total classic that delves into the nitty-gritty of modern warfare and those badass battle tactics. And let me tell ya, Prichard knocks it out of the park with his performance. Trust me, investing 27 hours into this gem is totally worth it.
