I grew up in Huntsville, AL, and Homer Hickam lived at the base of the mountain that I considered mine. My parents always talked about him, and my mom even had a signed copy of Rocket Boys. She was so protective of it that she wouldn't let me take it out of the house to borrow and read. That's why I'm incredibly grateful for this audiobook version. The narrator is absolutely perfect. Homer's true-life adventure, from being a young boy in a coal mining town to becoming a rocket scientist, is thrilling for anyone interested in either of those subjects. The story itself is full of humor, charm, and inspiration. As the daughter of a rocket scientist and someone who has spent time in a coal mining town myself, I can really relate to Homer Hickam's life experiences. I'm tempted to write him a letter just to express my gratitude for becoming an author.
By the way, there is another incomplete version of this title on the service that needs to be removed by the admin. However, the one I am reviewing, narrated by Tom Stechschulte, brings me pure joy. If you enjoyed the movie "October Sky," you will absolutely love this unabridged, full rendition of Homer Hickam's story.
I'm not a fan of it. It's pretty dull. I mean, what's the whole purpose of this being a story? Apologies, Sonny! It's your life and everything, but I just can't bring myself to care all that much.
Schools should definitely include this book in their reading lists. The story is truly incredible and hard to believe it's true. The narrator did a fantastic job in bringing the story to life.

This book was truly inspiring and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you have a fascination for space, then this is a book that you will definitely appreciate. It has been the best book I've come across in quite some time.
As a child, I watched the movie and it instantly became a favorite. However, I never got the chance to read the book until recently. I must say, both the movie and the book are absolutely remarkable and deeply uplifting.
