Summary

5 Days Ago a rash of bizarre murders swept the country... Senseless. Brutal. Seemingly unconnected. A cop walked into a nursing home and unloaded his weapons on elderly and staff alike. A mass of school shootings. Prison riots of unprecedented brutality. Mind-boggling acts of violence in every state. 4 Days Ago the murders increased ten-fold... 3 Days Ago the President addressed the nation and begged for calm and peace... 2 Days Ago the killers began to mobilize... Yesterday all the power went out... Tonight they're reading the names of those to be killed on the Emergency Broadcast System. You are listening over the battery-powered radio on your kitchen table, and they've just read yours. Your name is Jack Colclough. You have a wife, a daughter, and a young son. You live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. People are coming to your house to kill you and your family. You don't know why, but you don't have time to think about that any more. You only have time to R U N!

  • I was so eager to adore this book and I was genuinely thrilled when I stumbled upon it. Patterson has written some fantastic books, and come on, who doesn't adore Dolly? But, I have to be honest, this book is seriously disappointing. I pushed through almost to the end, hoping that by some stroke of luck it would improve, but it was just painfully bad. The narrators had so much potential, but unfortunately, they fell way short. And, I hate to say it, but Dolly's voice sounded either toothless or like she was under the influence. I mean no disrespect, but someone in the editing department should have caught that and addressed it.
  • I'm 21 chapters deep into this book and finding it hard to finish due to the monotonous tone of the narrator. It's disappointing to discover that the narration isn't done by Dolly herself, as she only has brief lines every few chapters. Instead, it's a computer-generated voice that sounds like a drone, and it's really unsatisfying. The parts where other characters speak only make it worse, because then you're left with the computer voice after enjoying the variety of other voices. Another major disappointment is that none of the singing parts are actually sung in the audiobook. None of the songs make it into the narration, and that's such a missed opportunity. It's a bummer, because the story itself is enjoyable - your typical light read with a pretty girl, talent, love, and tragedy. It could have been absolutely amazing if Dolly had more narration and Kelsea actually sang the songs instead of just speaking the lines.
  • I really enjoyed tuning in to Dolly's narration in "Run." The pace of the story was really quick, keeping me engaged throughout. The plot felt realistic, with its basis in some actual events.
  • The story was decent. Dolly Parton was not the best choice for the narration. Her voice was a bit shaky and seemed like she was wearing ill-fitting dentures. She struggled with singing a line and staying in tune. It ended up being distracting and a little disappointing.
  • I was really excited about reading this book because I am a big fan of both authors. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. The main character was quite unlikable and made foolish choices repeatedly. It took way too long for any significant developments related to her mystery to occur. Throughout most of the book, she is constantly getting beaten up and it's treated as if it's not a big deal. I had high hopes for this book, so I'm genuinely disappointed that it didn't resonate with me.
  • Honestly, this book was a total drag and made me want to barf. I kept thinking that maybe, just maybe, the next chapter would redeem itself and become less formulaic, less cringeworthy. But nope, that never happened.
  • I was really let down by the excessive swearing in 'Run'. I hadn't even finished the first chapter, but I've decided not to continue listening to it. It feels like a waste of my hard-earned cash.
  • I never expected to have any complaints about anything Dolly did, but the way this book was narrated was quite disappointing. Dolly's voice comes across as if she doesn't have any teeth, and Ethan's narration is so awkward that listening to it was quite difficult. I hate to say it, but I found it to be a complete waste of time.
