Summary
The chic Manhattan nightspot called Du Vin has a French theme-though it's actually owned by an Irishman who just happens to be married to the NYPSD's Lieutenant Eve Dallas. Du Vin is not the kind of place Dallas would usually patronize, and it's definitely not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that's exactly what happens one cold February evening.
I absolutely love this series. However, this particular story was rather average. I couldn't help but anticipate a twist or turn to make it more exciting. It just didn't meet my expectations. It was okay, but not outstanding.
The performance, as always, was top-notch, but the plot failed to captivate me like the majority of the In Death series. Additionally, there seemed to be a countless number of potential culprits, only for the killer to be apprehended in the final chapters due to an utterly foolish (hard to believe) blunder. Furthermore, I find myself growing weary of Robb constantly revisiting the traumatic Dallas rape/murder incident from her childhood. It's time to move on from that and the far-fetched dreams.
I'm a big fan of this series, but unfortunately, this book didn't quite hit the mark for me. I found the story to be dull and lacking any fresh character development. It's beginning to feel a bit too predictable and formulaic. I struggled to stay engaged and ended up losing interest along the way. Personally, I enjoy it more when there's a sense of danger for the main characters and when their personal growth is highlighted, whether individually or as couples. Here's hoping that the next installment will bring back that excitement and depth I've come to expect.
