I got the chance to experience this fantastic novel about two decades ago, and it left a lasting impression on me. Recently, I decided to revisit it by listening to the audiobook, this time from the perspective of a middle-aged woman. Let me tell you, it's still an exceptional memoir and ranks among the finest I've ever come across. Wally Lamb's talent as a writer truly knows no bounds.

I get it, sometimes a book has to shake you up in order to make an impact. But the suffering you endure while reading should ultimately be rewarding. While the message at the end of "She's Come Undone" was positive, the writing itself was really emotionally draining, almost like enduring a slow and painful ordeal. Instead of eagerly anticipating what would happen next, I found myself dreading the next unfortunate event that would befall the protagonist. I did notice moments of humor, but the overall narrative was so overwhelmingly bleak that it was hard to fully appreciate those rare glimpses of levity.

I've invested 5 hours into this book, and all I can say is that it's all about dysfunction. Yeah, the protagonist had a really tough childhood, but who hasn't, right? But what's the point of this story about a messed-up family? So far, I haven't gained any real insights. There's nothing uplifting or hopeful; it's just all about dysfunction.

The person reading this audiobook seems to confuse commas with periods. The story itself is just a string of gloomy and expected occurrences. Despite feeling disappointed and regretful about spending money on this recording, I managed to complete it solely due to my own stubbornness.
