Summary

A month has passed since Martin helped to defeat the evil programmer Jimmy, and things couldn’t be going better. Except for his love life, that is. Feeling distant and lost, Gwen has journeyed to Atlantis, a tolerant and benevolent kingdom governed by the Sorceresses, and a place known as a safe haven to all female time-travelers. Thankfully, Martin and Philip are invited to a summit in Atlantis for all of the leaders of the time-traveler colonies, so this could be Martin’s chance to try again with Gwen. Of course, this is Martin Banks we’re talking about, so murder, mystery, and high intrigue all get in the way of a guy who just wants one more shot to get the girl. The follow-up to the hilarious Off to Be the Wizard, Scott Meyer’s Spell or High Water proves that no matter what powers you have over time and space, you can’t control rotten luck.

  • I absolutely adored the first book and had a great time with the second installment in the series, even though the plot didn't captivate me as much. It's an enjoyable audiobook that offers light-hearted entertainment, sprinkled with humor and cleverness. If you're looking for a deep and thought-provoking story, this might not be it, but sometimes we all need some lightheartedness to lift our spirits, and this audiobook delivers exactly that for me.
  • In the second installment of the Magic 2.0 series, our enchanters find themselves embarking on a new adventure in Atlantis. This mystical place is governed by sorceresses, with men serving as their companions in return for certain favors (or at least, that's how it seemed to me). The author maintains the same writing style and humorous tone as the first book, while introducing two distinct storylines. One follows the wizards in England/Atlantis, while the other delves into Jimmy's tale (the same character from the first book). Both storylines are enjoyable, although Jimmy's journey feels somewhat predictable. Within Atlantis, we encounter Brit the Elder and Brit the Younger, essentially the same person existing simultaneously. This sets the stage for numerous time-travel plotlines, which become the primary focus of this book. Although I found the reasoning behind the plot to be a bit weak, the overall journey was still entertaining, so I can overlook that. Once again, the narration in the audiobook version was outstanding.
  • This fantasy book is absolutely amazing and hilarious! Meyer's captivating idea and entertaining writing style make this sequel just as fantastic as the original. However, I must admit that Luke Daniels' attempt at a Norwegian accent is quite painful for my ears and my sense of national pride. :-)
