Summary

In a night of shattering brutality, three of Washingtons's most powerful and unscrupulous politicians have been executed with surgical precision. Their assassins, vanishing without a trace, have delivered a shocking ultimatum to the leaders of the American government: set aside petty, partisan politics and restore power to the people, or be held to deadly account. No one, they warn, is out of their reach-not even the president.A joint FBI-CIA task force reveals that the killers are stealth experts, elite military commandos with the proven capacity to penetrate the tightest security and neutralize any target. But no one knows exaclty who they are or when they will strike next. Only Michael O'Rourke, a former U.S. Marine and freshman congressman, holds a clue to the violence: a haunting incident in his own past with explosive implications for his country's future.Delivered with the dead-on impact of a sniper's bullet, Term Limits is a tour de force of authenticity and suspense, an all-too-realistic and utterly compelling vision in which the ultimate American ideal-a government of the people-is taken to a devastating extreme.

  • If you're a fan of Vince, you'll notice the introduction of several characters reminiscent of the comic books we enjoyed in our youth. These characters feel familiar, although there's no mention of Mitch. It seems like Vince must have written this during his lunch breaks, but it's still a fantastic story that fulfills the secret wish of any patriotic individual. The editor who suggested Vince take a break was onto something, as it gave us a Vince who was refreshed and ready to deliver. I highly recommend purchasing this audiobook, especially if you've already enjoyed over 400 other titles.
  • The initial installment in the Mitch Rapp series, 'Term Limits', fails to impress due to its underwhelming storyline and the noticeable absence of George Guidall, the renowned narrator of the subsequent books. This audiobook has the potential to leave listeners feeling frustrated, as they may regret investing a significant 15 hours of their lives into it. However, one redeeming aspect is the introduction of crucial characters who go on to play significant roles in later installments. Notably, the brief appearance of Mitchell, an aide to Irene, hints at the emergence of the titular character, Mitch Rapp.
  • It just didn't feel worth the time. The writing style wasn't very impressive, lacking depth. The author seemed to prioritize action over substance, leaving the story lacking in depth.
  • I might be feeling a bit gloomy, but personally, I found this book to be quite lengthy, although I believe it was worth the numerous times I had to rewind and re-listen due to either dozing off or my mind wandering. Being in a disadvantaged position, I heavily rely on audiobooks for my well-being. I consume a considerable amount of books, so my need for this obvious form of escapism is quite high. In a sense, this book displays some creativity and packs in a plethora of detailed information about various types of equipment used throughout the story. However, I found the characters to be lacking in development, at least in comparison to the depth I often find in many other books that I adore. As a fan of Nora Roberts, particularly J.D. Robb, I appreciate well-developed characters in my stories. So, if your preference leans more towards an engaging plot rather than intricate character development, then you might find enjoyment in this book.
  • I'm generally a fan of the agent/action thriller genre and I've listened to all of Vince Flynn's unabridged books. Flynn's books usually have a right-wing political philosophy that's typical of the genre, which I don't mind, as it adds to the story. However, 'Term Limits' takes it too far. It portrays ex-seals as heroes who decide to tackle the increasing national debt by assassinating elected representatives who support the president's budget, including a senator who obviously resembles Teddy Kennedy. This might sound familiar given the current political climate. The book was published in 2009, prior to the Tea Party's influence, but glorifying right-wing political assassins is closely related to the uncompromising and radical mentality of the extreme right in our country.
  • Vince Flynn delivers a power-packed story in "Term Limits" that encompasses a wide range of elements. From corruption, deceit, and dishonesty to despicable individuals, this book pulls no punches. However, what sets it apart is the presence of vigilante justice, with the righteous characters doling out long-overdue retribution for the immense damage inflicted on the American people. It's refreshing to come across a writer who is not afraid to champion a cause and shed light on societal issues. Kudos to Vince Flynn for his impactful storytelling.
