  • I really enjoyed reading this book. What I really appreciated about it was how it provided concrete examples and managed to be concise and straightforward. Many thanks for this amazing read.
  • Once I pressed play on this audiobook, I immediately sensed a hint of self-righteousness that didn't quite jive with my preferences. Instead of feeling like a personal development lecture, it leaned heavily towards resembling a Sunday sermon. Curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to do a little online digging. Lo and behold, I discovered that the author is a Mormon who has skillfully woven Mormon teachings into the fabric of secular self-help. In fact, in one of his other books targeted at his fellow believers, he wrote: "I've noticed that when addressing individuals from different cultures and non-LDS groups, we can effectively teach and share gospel principles if we carefully choose words that resonate with their experiences and perspectives" (Divine Center, p. 240). While this might be perfectly fine for those interested in Mormon ideology, there is no indication during the author's nearly three-hour discourse that he is affiliated with the Mormon faith or that his teachings draw from religious sources. To put it mildly, this strikes me as rather deceptive.
