Sarah Coomes definitely nails it once more! She is absolutely fantastic, especially when she portrays a male character, which she does with remarkable credibility. There's this scene where Christiana gets drunk and becomes absolutely hilarious. I genuinely believe that the humor wouldn't have landed as effectively if I had read it myself. But let me tell you, my absolute favorite part of the book was when Christiana and Richard cross paths at the Ball. It had me in stitches!
Lyndsay Sands' writing style is absolutely delightful - she infuses so much humor into her stories. "The Countess" is a prime example of her talent as it almost feels like a slapstick comedy. I found myself laughing continuously throughout the entire book. I have a soft spot for a well-executed romantic comedy, and this one definitely hit the mark. Keep up the great work, Lyndsay! Your fans, like myself, appreciate it. Cheers, Laura Moats.
If you're someone who gets bothered by language, historical accuracy, and realistic elements, then "The Countess" might be a bit overwhelming for you. It requires the ability to overlook the too modern language usage and actions of the characters. However, if you can do that, then there are parts in the book that will make you laugh out loud and provide an enjoyable reading experience. Personally, I prefer sticking to the Argeneau books that I love.
