Summary
When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something frightening enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that got her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government "rehabilitation camp."
I still can't wrap my head around how we transition from a pandemic wiping out a majority of children to imprisoning the ones who survived in concentration camps, with the approval of their own parents. Seriously, this narrative is absolutely terrible.
I must say, this book is incredibly disappointing. The inconsistencies in the plot are painfully obvious, and the story itself lacks depth. It's unbelievably dull and predictable that I found myself speed-reading just to reach the end, praying for it to be over.
