  • The Graveyard Book is a delightful story that revolves around a young orphan who finds himself in the care of supernatural beings residing in a graveyard. After a mysterious and sinister group discovers that this child poses a threat to them, they make it their mission to get rid of him. Despite the tragic fate that befalls his biological family, fate intervenes and the baby boy is taken in by the spectral inhabitants of a nearby cemetery. Swiftly embraced and protected by the graveyard's inhabitants, the young boy is shielded from the faction that caused his family's demise. They not only raise him as their own but also shower him with love, treating him as if he were their flesh and blood. This book transports readers to a charming village where your adoptive parents are a kind Victorian ghost couple, your guardian is a reformed vampire with centuries of wisdom, your teacher is a nurturing werewolf, and your community is a lively gathering of ghosts from various times and places. The enchantment of the graveyard ensures your safety from those who wish you harm, and you must remain hidden until danger has passed. Meanwhile, you discover a sense of belonging and find solace among the wonderfully eerie atmosphere.
  • While I wouldn't label it as a fantastic read, I must say it's a truly delightful one. Some reviewers mentioned the violence, which is something I strongly dislike. What I appreciated about this book is its minimal depiction of violence. The author cleverly leaves the violent act in the beginning open to interpretation, allowing the reader's imagination to fill in the gaps. The protagonist, Bod, is a nonviolent character who rarely resorts to defending himself. He lets the antagonists seal their own fate. Scary ghouls and ghosts? Not really. They turn out to be genuinely loving and compassionate beings. Throughout my reading, I contemplated whether this book is suitable for children. As an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed it and believe that many children would too. Comparatively, tales like Hansel and Gretel come to mind, with their violent and horrifying elements. And let's not forget the twisted and violent nature of Little Red Riding Hood. None of that is present here. Instead, it's a delightful story where goodness triumphs over evil, or more accurately, evil destroys itself. To top it all off, the narration was superb. When it comes to rating the book, I find it rather challenging. Considering what it is, I would easily give it 5 stars. However, in the broader context of all books, it may only deserve 4 stars. On Netflix, 4 stars indicate "I really liked it." So, that settles it.
  • I haven't come across a more impressive audiobook, Neil Gaiman's narration is absolutely outstanding and had me staying awake until the wee hours of the morning for two consecutive nights.
