I can't believe I didn't discover "The Heart Mender: A Story of Second Chances" sooner, given that I'm a huge fan of Andy Andrews and live on the Gulf Coast. But I'm glad I finally did, especially because the audio book version with Andy narrating added an extra layer of enjoyment. This book is a definite must-read or must-listen, and it might just become my new favorite among Andy's works. It's his best work yet, and the historical accuracy adds that extra touch of greatness. Thank you, Andy, for this amazing book!
This true story is superbly crafted, unfolding its facts through extraordinary and almost magical events. It has a profound impact on the reader, reminding us that if we fail to forgive others, we cannot expect forgiveness from the Lord. Remember Matthew 6:14-15.
At the beginning, I was almost ready to give up on listening to this book, but boy, am I glad I didn't! Let me tell you, it turned out to be one of the most entertaining audiobooks I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The narrator, who happens to be the author as well, truly nailed it with the various accents and brought the characters to life in such a vivid way. Trust me when I say, I highly recommend this gem to everyone out there.
I really liked reading this book. Usually, I'm a bit skeptical when the author is also the narrator, but I was pleasantly surprised and I don't think anyone else could have narrated it better.
Since I'm from Louisiana and have been to Orange Beach a few times, I felt a connection to the characters and the setting.
The main message of the story, which could have easily turned into cheesy or overly sentimental writing in the hands of other authors, was conveyed brilliantly with humor and the charm of the southern culture.

They should have made this more of a quick novella instead of a full-length book. It could benefit from some thorough editing since a substantial portion of it wasn't engaging. The author seemed to stretch it out by including unnecessary details, perhaps to compensate for the lack of content. However, the parts that were actually captivating were absolutely gripping.
I didn't realize there was so much historical content in this book. It's really opened my eyes and now I have a lot of catching up to do in terms of research. The book is divided into three parts, and there's even a fourth part that gives updates on where the characters are now. I'm definitely going to check out Andy's other books after reading this one. It was absolutely fantastic!
I'm a huge fan of historical fiction, but I can't stand it when books try to push a personal agenda. It's really disappointing to see this book taking a religious angle.
