I really had high hopes for 'The Lying Game' and pushed myself to finish the first half, but unfortunately, I couldn't connect with the story. While I adored the author's previous works, this one felt like a slog. The protagonist's melancholy disposition didn't resonate with me, and the narration was so sluggish that I had to increase the playback speed.
This book was such a struggle for me to get through, man! I kept telling myself it would improve, but damn, it never did! I'm still scratching my head about the whole Mary situation, like did anything even happen? And then we find out she doesn't actually love this seemingly amazing guy, but she's gonna keep faking it? I gotta be honest, I did not vibe with it at all!
Ruth Ware truly impressed me with "The Lying Game". Despite some mixed reviews, I decided to give it a shot and I'm glad I did. While "In a Dark, Dark Wood" remains my favorite, this one comes in a close second. I had my doubts after "The Woman in Cabin 10", but "The Lying Game" turned out to be a very satisfying read. I highly recommend picking up this book. Imogen Church, as always, nailed the narration with her amazing voice. I'm a big fan of her no matter what. The ending completely caught me off guard, I never saw the killer coming. It was a pleasant surprise. I had some theories in mind, but that one never crossed my mind. It's definitely worth spending your money or using a credit on.
