Summary

The seals of Shayol Ghul are weak now, and the Dark One reaches out. The Shadow is rising to cover humankind. In Tar Valon, Min sees portents of hideous doom. Will the White Tower itself be broken? In the Two Rivers, the Whitecloaks ride in pursuit of a man with golden eyes, and in pursuit of the Dragon Reborn. In Cantorin, among the Sea Folk, High Lady Suroth plans the return of the Seanchan armies to the mainland. In the Stone of Tear, the Lord Dragon considers his next move. • I'm currently on book six of The Wheel of Time series, and I have to say, I'm feeling quite let down. Robert Jordan kicks off with a promising story full of potential, but unfortunately, he fails to meet the expectations set by the first book. The only characters who show any depth are Rand, Matt, and Perrin, while the three girls stumble through the series, constantly complaining about men and making foolish decisions just like the men they criticize. Jordan builds a world teetering on the edge of destruction, yet all the characters seem incapable of making a single mistake without wallowing in regret for at least half an hour. I crave more darkness, desperation, and less whining in a medieval setting where human rights are distant and monsters roam freely. If you're into romantic fantasy, melodramatic women, and main characters who can't seem to communicate effectively, then this series is perfect for you. The only reason I'm still listening to it is because I bought the entire series at once.
  • You gotta start from the beginning with this series, man. 'The Shadow Rising' is book number four out of like 87, so it's kinda deep in the game. The author really loves to make his characters argue, like, a lot. And I mean, they argue about the same damn thing over and over again. It's up to you, though.
  • I was completely amazed by the first book in this series. The second book wasn't too bad, but then there was the Prequel and then Book Three and then WHAT? What happened to the quality, Jordan? Did you just exploit this series for all it was worth or did you always have something innovative and exciting in each installment? I look at how long Star Trek lasted. Year after year and incarnation after incarnation, yet almost every episode offered something fresh. Can the same be said for Wheel of Time? I don't think so. I'm sorry, Robert, my old buddy, despite what many of the reviews here claim, this series becomes more clichéd and dull with each book. I feel like I'm being manipulated to spend every last penny. Well, it ends here.
