I'm usually not a fan of books or e-books written by salespeople like Jordan Belfort. It often feels like they're more interested in self-promotion rather than explaining why their tactics actually work. However, I have to admit that this book is different. It does a great job of getting to the core of why certain sales tactics are effective. It made me realize that if someone doesn't trust you or your company during a sales pitch, they're likely to walk away or think your product is terrible. That's a harsh truth, but it's something we need to be aware of. Belfort's straight line system makes a lot of sense to me, unlike other sales books that are filled with useless information. Overall, I found this book to be a refreshing take on sales strategies.
If you have some background in sales, chances are you're already familiar with the majority of the information he presents. He tends to package it with a touch of narcissism, as though he's some deity, emphasizing the sheer brilliance of his "system." However, it's important to note that a significant portion of his advice is outdated, stemming from his experiences in the 80s and 90s. Additionally, a good chunk of it is simply common sense that any salesman or businessperson would already be aware of.
The author shouldn't have done the narration for this audiobook. It would have been better if it was read by someone else with a different tone, as mentioned in the book.
I read a few sales books every month, and I'm giving this one a three-star rating. It's not one of my top ten recommendations.
