  • This audiobook is a perfect blend of philosophy and practicality. It doesn't offer any superficial or hollow spiritual guidance, but rather provides insightful advice that is substantial and meaningful, something you can really dig into and grasp.
  • I went through a phase where I was devouring a ton of CS Lewis books, either written by him or about him. When I checked today, I realized that I have finished 19 of Lewis' books, many of them multiple times, and started but didn't finish another 4. However, it's been a while since I last read Lewis. If I'm not mistaken, the last book I read about Lewis was the joint biography of the Inklings in February 2017. And the last book I read by Lewis was Screwtape Letters in November 2016. I decided to give the audiobook of The Weight of Glory a try because it was really cheap and I needed something 'light' to balance out all the heavy stuff I've been reading/listening to lately. I must admit that I wasn't as engaged as I should have been. The Weight of Glory happens to be the favorite Lewis book of several people I know, but it didn't have the same impact on me. It's not because it's a bad book, but rather because I've already read most of Lewis' library. The introduction by Walter Hooper, who was Lewis' literary executor and briefly his personal secretary at the end of his life, was really interesting. I actually enjoyed the introduction as much as anything else (not that the rest of the book is bad, but because I hadn't read a similar introduction by Hooper before). Hooper mentioned that you can see many ideas from Lewis' later books in their early form here, and that's definitely true. Lewis had a way with words. He got straight to the point and was incredibly quotable. The Weight of Glory is no exception. I probably would have preferred reading it in print instead of listening to the audiobook. However, one of the reasons I chose to listen to it was because I hadn't gotten around to reading it in print, even though I've owned it for nearly four years. In the end, although there were some great lines and I found myself making connections to other things Lewis wrote, the book ended up being forgettable for me.
  • The narrator of this audiobook rushes through the content at an uncomfortable pace. It's a shame, but I had to give up on it. I didn't have the chance to fully absorb the words being spoken.
  • Wow, this book is absolutely incredible. I really regret not picking it up sooner, it's truly a game-changer. It's so good that I'm actually considering giving it another read. The amount of valuable knowledge packed within its pages is mind-blowing.
  • This audiobook is a compilation of captivating messages delivered by a true master of storytelling. Despite the challenging times in Britain during the war, Lewis manages to provide a fresh perspective. The commentary interspersed with Lewis's messages provides valuable insight into the man and the historical context in which he spoke. Remarkably, these words continue to resonate today, maintaining their relevance. The only thing that would enhance my enjoyment even further is the availability of surviving original recordings.
  • This is hands down one of the best books I've ever come across. The level of insight is mind-blowing. It really opens your eyes to how we perceive the world, our relationship with the divine, and the meaning of life. I can't express enough how thankful I am for this masterpiece.
  • When it comes to understanding the larger war and managing the front lines, Clive Staples Lewis is unparalleled. He skillfully balances focusing on heaven while providing practical advice on how to reach it. Lewis's intellect helps us grasp profound questions, while his candidness encourages us to be more honest about the obstacles we face daily, as he faced them too. These talks offer a remedy for despair, serve as a reminder of hope, and provide a means to maintain our sanity. Ralph Cosham's narration is a perfect match for this audiobook.
