Summary
ESPN began as an outrageous gamble with a lineup that included Australian Rules Football, rodeo, and a rinky-dinky clip show called Sports Center. Today the empire stretches far beyond television into radio, magazines, mobile phones, restaurants, video games and more, while ESPN's personalities have become global superstars to rival the sports icons they cover.
A fascinating tale of a little idea snow balling into arguably one of the most influential, cultural phenomenons that is the modern day news and entertainment network. Knowing the personalities helps to track the audio a long the way as well as Mr. Miller's spectacular ability to insert his descriptions of the events and pivotal turning points in the story. This is an outstanding listen if you enjoy the oral history format of nonfiction. I had a hard time pushing pause, usually only doing so when my ears became irritated with the buds that had been stuffed in them for several hours.
