Summary
Commander Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch will be damned if he lets anyone disturb his city's always tentative peace -- and that includes a rabble-rousing dwarf from the sticks who's been stirring up trouble on the eve of the anniversary of one of Discworld's most infamous historical events.
I gotta say, "Thud!" was my introduction to the whole Discworld series and damn, did it hook me! This book has it all - it's got Terry Pratchett's incredible fantasy world, some epic storytelling, and enough charm to convert even non-fans into die-hard enthusiasts. Seriously, whether you're a longtime Discworld lover or someone looking to dip their toes in this magical realm, I can't recommend "Thud!" enough. It's a game-changer, folks!
The characters in 'Thud!' are hilarious and wonderfully developed, just as one would expect. However, I found the story to be somewhat lacking in engagement and even a tad dull. While the narrator isn't terrible, I initially had some reservations about the performance, but eventually grew accustomed to it. It's worth noting that the audio quality could use some improvement.
This book, 'Thud!', is a prime example of Pratchett's work. It's definitely a great read, although it doesn't quite make it to the top of my favorites list. However, Briggs once again delivers an excellent performance that adds to the overall enjoyment of the audiobook.
This is one of my first times encountering the famed City Watch and it certainly was a hell of an introduction. The characters are wonderful, the story is winding and enthralling, the narrator does a magnificent job and the entire thing is just a treat to listen to. I cannot encourage this more even if you aren't a fan or know anything about Discworld.
