  • I was hoping for more honesty in this book. The story feels polished and rearranged, only highlighting certain events in Arnold's life where everything seemed to go exactly as planned. He constantly outsmarted and outperformed everyone around him, even managing to become governor without any external assistance. It's an interesting story, but it's missing some important details. For example, Arnold fails to mention Bill Perl, who won Mr. Universe in 1971 at the age of 41 while Arnold, the "reigning king," suddenly decided not to compete. One passage that stands out is when Arnold expresses frustration over losing to Frank Zane and claims that he should have won because he was taller and bigger. However, in the documentary "Pumping Iron," Arnold is actually smaller than Lou Ferrigno, so his winning rules didn't seem to apply then. Another example is when Arnold claims to know everything about real estate, but it was actually a lady who was the one finding good deals, not him. And this goes on for a lengthy 22 hours. It almost feels like a tribute to his enormous ego.
  • This autobiography delivers exactly what you'd expect, with a complete and satisfying account of the author's journey to fame and achievements. It provides a vivid glimpse into his mindset, starting from his humble beginnings in rural Austria, his move to America, his bodybuilding days, success in Hollywood, experiences with the Kennedy family, and ultimately his governorship. Throughout the book, the author strongly emphasizes the importance of hard work and salesmanship. Towards the end, he openly admits to cheating on his wife with the nanny, acknowledging that there is no excuse for his actions, without mentioning any other instances of infidelity. Interestingly, he claims not to be a role model while riding his bicycle in Santa Monica without a helmet, yet he presents this book as a valuable resource for self-improvement, with nuggets of wisdom like "do more reps," "don't be lazy," and "exercise your brain like a muscle." While the author narrates the first and last chapters, the narrator for the remaining chapters lacks any hint of Schwarzenegger's distinctive style, refusing to use accents throughout, although he almost slips up a few times while delivering some iconic Schwarzenegger one-liners.
  • This book is quite lengthy, but I was genuinely impressed by how much ground it managed to cover! However, I did notice some obvious exclusions, like his affair with the housekeeper (although he does touch on the topic of their love-child). I believe these omissions are simply a result of not enough time passing since those events occurred. It's understandable that the wounds may still be too fresh. If this book had been written a decade later, I think he would have been more open about it. In fact, I wish this book had been written more recently so that we could hear his thoughts on the current unfortunate state of the Trump Administration. What really struck me about his story was how incredibly driven and ambitious he is! I had no idea he was such a focused individual. It left a lasting impression on me. It's hard not to notice the large ego that matches his imposing physique, but his remarkable achievements in life prove that he had what it takes to succeed. Schwarzenegger's narrative is candid, honest, and doesn't hold back - exactly what you'd expect from a celebrity biography. As for the audio narration, Schwarzenegger himself reads the first chapter but then it switches to another narrator. I found the transition to be quite abrupt and it took some time for me to get used to someone else reading Schwarzenegger's story in the first person.
  • This story is absolutely incredible, not to mention incredibly inspiring and educational. It truly showcases the greatness of Arnold, who is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable individuals in the history of mankind. Hats off to you, Arnold, for sharing your unbelievable life story!
  • I'm not sure what made me purchase this book, maybe just curiosity, but I really wasn't expecting much. However, I can confidently say that this book has become one of my top five life-changing reads. It has completely shifted my mindset for the better. It's an incredible book. Thank you, Arnold, for sharing your story.
  • You could easily tell the difference between the parts where Arnold took the lead in writing and when the biographer was assisting him. The language gradually shifts throughout the book, which I found quite fascinating. Overall, I had a great time reading this book. Towards the end, Arnold provides a list of about 14 items to consider when shaping your life and striving to achieve your goals. The list was fantastic, but its value would have been diminished if I hadn't read the entire book. It was like an infographic, but with a powerful impact thanks to the story that accompanies it.
