Summary
Uncle Tom is a high-minded, devoutly Christian black slave to a kind family, the Shelbys. Beset by financial difficulties, the Shelbys sell Tom to a slave trader. Young George Shelby promises to someday redeem him. The story relates Uncle Tom's trials, suffering, and religious fortitude.
I really enjoyed the narrative of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin: Life Among the Lowly', although I struggled to complete it. The narrator's voice is rather gentle and subdued, which requires you to increase the volume higher than usual. However, at times, her pitch becomes grating, akin to the sensation of being stabbed in the ear with an ice pick. I plan to seek out an alternative version where Mary Sarah is not the narrator.
This book is a true masterpiece that captures the essence of American life. It is an emotional and deeply moving work of art that should not be overlooked by anyone.
