I almost gave up on this book after a few chapters since it seemed like a typical "guy book" focused on war. However, I'm glad I stuck with it. "Water from My Heart: A Novel" is a fictional story with a strong basis in reality, depicting the transformation of a man with worldly desires into one who follows God's path. It's a truly inspiring and thought-provoking read that prompts all of us to reassess our priorities. I highly recommend this book to everyone. On a side note, I genuinely hope that the people of America will turn to God and restore our nation's Christian values, which were the foundation of our country. A big thank you to Charles Martin for writing this much-needed book.
I absolutely adored this book. The writing is absolutely stunning, striking the perfect balance between a lighthearted narrative and something with real substance. It's not overly heavy or dark, but it's definitely not just fluff either. For me, it was a flawless five-star listen, until the last 15 minutes. The final portion titled "On Building a Well" veered into preachy territory and ended up being a bit too much. As a believer in God myself, I appreciate the message the author intended to convey, but it felt like it was being force-fed to me through a 15-minute lecture. The historical perspective was intriguing, but the self-absorbed, preachy lecture left me feeling frustrated. It's unfortunate because I wish I had stopped listening once the fiction portion concluded. The beautiful final moments of the story would have left a lasting impact, instead of being overshadowed by a guilt-inducing lecture that made me sigh. I may give another book by Charles Martin a shot, but I must admit, I'm a bit hesitant. On a positive note, the narration was exceptional.
The imagery in this audiobook is top-notch, and I was pleasantly surprised by the narrator's accents and pronunciations. However, everything that initially drew me to the main character - his job, attitude, and relationships - gradually devolve into tired clichés, making the overall experience a disappointing waste of time.
This book tells a fantastic tale. I was unfamiliar with this author, and I didn't expect it to align with my preferences. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Make sure not to overlook the author's note at the conclusion.
I really liked this book a lot, but I feel like it lacked the profound and eloquent writing that I know this author is capable of. Even though the story was emotionally impactful, the concluding notes were exceptionally strong. Can't wait for more books from you, Mr. Martin.
He's the absolute tops at his craft. I never want his books to come to a close. Without question, my all-time favorite writer. I really hope everyone gives him a shot, because they won't be disappointed, I swear!
Charles Martin consistently delivers amazing stories! "Water from My Heart: A Novel" may just be his finest work yet. Each of his novels always has a lasting impact, and this one is no exception. I absolutely adored this book!
Make sure you don't skip the epilogue titled "Digging a well" towards the end. It's a must-read!
The narration was top-notch and greatly enhanced the overall listening experience.
This book is going to be a massive hit, believe me. It's not every day that I come across a book that makes me genuinely yearn for a big-screen adaptation. But this one has that special quality. Let me tell you, it hits the mark perfectly. It was so fantastic that I couldn't resist listening to it back-to-back.
I gotta say, this book by Martin is definitely up there as one of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all of his books, but this one had a certain something that set it apart. Maybe it's because it delved deeper into his personal experiences.
Having been on multiple mission trips to Honduras and Africa, I found "Water from My Heart: A Novel" to deeply resonate with me. It truly struck a chord in my heart. I wholeheartedly endorse this book and couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment when it came to its conclusion.
