Summary
In her enthralling debut, Gilly Macmillan explores a mother’s search for her missing son, weaving a taut psychological thriller as gripping and skillful as The Girl on the Train and The Guilty One.
This book didn't really impress me. It had a slow pace and the ending left much to be desired. The only characters that were well-developed were the two main ones, but even they fell short of my expectations.
This book doesn't have anything outstanding, except for the narrators who bring a refreshing element to the story. It's interesting to hear the characters engaging in dialogue. Overall, it's just another abduction story, but it serves as a reminder to always be vigilant.
The narrator did an amazing job with differentiating the voices of each character, making it effortless to identify who was speaking during conversations.
Though the story itself wasn't outstanding, I did find it enjoyable. It started off a bit slow and had some repetitive elements, but it provided ample opportunity to deeply understand and connect with each character. The various perspectives, including those of a doctor, first person narratives, and online sources, added an interesting dimension to the plot. While I didn't anticipate the ending, it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat either. The back-and-forth storytelling towards the end definitely kept me intrigued.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this book.
