Summary
Join Robyn Carr, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Virgin River and Thunder Point series, as she explores the healing powers of rural Colorado in a brand-new story of fresh starts, budding relationships and one woman's journey to finding the happiness she's long been missing Between the urban bustle of Denver and the high-stress environment of a career in neurosurgery, Maggie Sullivan has hit a wall.
I'm a huge fan of Robyn Carr's Virgin River, Grace Valley, and Thunderpoint series. Naturally, I was stoked to discover a new series from her. The Colorado setting had me intrigued, but for some reason, the story didn't fully grab my attention. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be on the lookout for the second book in the series, holding out hope that my investment will grow as the series progresses.
I wasn't as captivated by this story as I had anticipated. The characters are alright and the plot is decent. Maggie, a surgeon, experiences a series of unfortunate events, prompting her to reevaluate her life while on an emotional retreat at her father's campgrounds. During this time, she encounters Cal, an initially mysterious individual, and embarks on a sweet romance. The story unfolds through various interesting adventures, such as rescuing someone from a crime, saving another from an angry bull, and helping a prostitute avoid jail. There is a mix of melancholy and humor throughout, creating an overall calm and contemplative vibe. Cal's tale of loss is incredibly sympathetic, even bringing tears to my eyes. However, there wasn't a significant climax to the story. Although I rooted for the likable characters, I didn't feel deeply invested in them. Surprisingly, my favorite character might have been Maggie's stepfather, who was only a side character, although Cal was also quite appealing. The narrator, Plummer, did a commendable job, and aside from a few moments of confusion between Maggie and Cal's points of view, I have no complaints. I would recommend this book if you're in the mood for a touching and grounded romance intertwined with themes of self-discovery and family.
I wasn't bored at all, though. Therese Plummer is an incredible storyteller. Many times, when she voiced the male characters, I could have sworn it was a man narrating! She has a real talent. The author is definitely knowledgeable and well-prepared, which makes it easy to get into the story.
The performance by Storey in 'What We Find' was absolutely amazing. I would definitely give it another listen, it was that good. The narrator was fantastic, and she truly nailed it with her exceptional skills.
Looks like we're in for another awesome series! This author seriously needs to pick up the pace and write faster. I'm eagerly counting down the days until the next installment!
I really enjoyed the story and I'm eagerly anticipating more! Robyn Carr does a fantastic job of creating a vivid image and introducing us to an exciting new town that I'm excited to explore.
Although the audiobook was enjoyable overall, I couldn't help but cringe whenever Ms. Plummer pronounced "neurosurgeon" incorrectly. Seriously, how did that happen?
This audiobook deserves more than 1000 stars! The story is absolutely stunning, filled with realism and devoid of unnecessary drama. Instead, it focuses on genuine love and emotions that truly resonate. I am lost for words after listening to it. From the very first word to the very last, I was completely captivated. I can hardly wait for the next installment! Robyn, you have created a truly brilliant masterpiece. Sending you blessings and light for your future endeavors! Additionally, the narrator is phenomenal, one of the best I've heard. The combination of the story and the narration is simply fantastic.
I might have made a wrong choice when picking up this book. I was intrigued by its Colorado setting as I reside there, and I anticipated enjoying that element. However, I had to cease listening because I found myself repeatedly uttering aloud, "this is dumb." The book reminded me of a mundane romance tale, where everything unfolds predictably and you can foresee the outcomes well in advance. The characters lacked depth, and the author made no endeavor to immerse readers in the surroundings. The entire book, or at least the portion I managed to tolerate, primarily consisted of dialogues between the characters. Additionally, the narrator was just as uninteresting.
This is just the ticket when you want to relax, curled up with a good book -- a sweet romance for a woman who had been thru some tough times, with a little turmoil thrown in for comparison. I appreciate credibility and this one was spot on. Narration is so important -- no disappointment here. (I have deleted books with bad narrators).
