  • Lisa Wingate's 'Wildwood Creek' was my initiation into her literary world, and I must say, it left a lasting impression. From the very beginning until the very end, I found myself thoroughly engrossed in every aspect of the book. The performances by the narrators for both Bonnie Rose and Allie Kirkland were outstanding, flawlessly bringing the characters to life. The narrator for the epilogue also did a commendable job. It was a completely satisfying experience. The balance between mystery, character development, romance, and references to God was just right, providing all the elements needed for a captivating story. What's more, I appreciate Lisa Wingate's ability to weave together an exceptional narrative without resorting to explicit scenes, gratuitous violence, or offensive language. It's refreshing to see that a truly remarkable story can be told without relying on these three elements. I wholeheartedly recommend 'Wildwood Creek' to any avid reader.
  • I initially got really absorbed in this book, but it ultimately left me feeling let down. The build-up in the present-day part didn't really have a satisfying payoff. I didn't feel like all the information about Allie's time in the costume department was necessary since it didn't really contribute much to the story once she was cast. Allie as a character didn't feel fully developed to me either. The climax of the story was poorly executed. I had a hard time believing that Stuart could drag Allie into a narrow cave opening, and I was left confused about how he managed to enter Wildwood if it was supposedly well protected. The whole idea of him being from a family of survivalists didn't really make sense either. I actually enjoyed the parts with Bonnie Rose more, but even the conclusion of that storyline was unsatisfying. It was hard for me to accept that Delavan was murdering the town inhabitants because they wouldn't join his militia. And what about the bones Allie found in the cave that were never mentioned again? I was also left wondering about the sex worker who ran screaming through the town - was Delavan trying to recruit her too? And what happened to Bonnie Rose while she was kidnapped by the Comanche? It seemed like she gave birth while in captivity, but the baby was only mentioned once and then never again. On top of all that, the book came across as preachy. It seemed like every paragraph contained some cliché about how to live, and the religious elements became more prominent as the story progressed. I later discovered that Lisa Wingate is a Christian writer, but this wasn't indicated on the service where I downloaded the book. If I had known, I wouldn't have chosen to read it. Given that my faith isn't theistic, I found the Christian aspects of the book off-putting. Overall, I can't really recommend this book.
  • I absolutely adored this tale! It's got a little bit of everything - romance, mystery, suspense, and a touch of history. The blend of the past and present is what really drew me in.
  • I absolutely loved listening to 'Wildwood Creek'. The readers were fantastic and the story was captivating. It's always such a treat when two different time periods collide in a narrative.
  • I loved the thought of this story. But there were a few things that didn’t make sense. Like why the bad guy in the town was hurting everyone in the first place. Why Ali didn’t have to have an accent like the real Bonnie rose. What happens when the movie comes out? Stuart?? Where did the obsession come from? I really loved the book didn’t want to stop listening but lots of questions after it was over.
