  • I was initially skeptical when I saw that Brick was the narrator because I find his voice to be monotonous and indistinguishable for each character. However, I was pleasantly surprised by his performance in this book. His voice acting was entertaining and managed to draw me into the story. Speaking of the story itself, it was quite captivating. It served as a great summary of previous books and events, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of each character's personal journey. Overall, I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. The only downside was that the performance lacked some of the immersive qualities that I have come to expect from other narrators.
  • Listening to War Crimes was a blast and I think the story had a ton of valuable information that all World of Warcraft players should absolutely be aware of. That's why it's a bit disappointing that this aspect didn't get a full five stars from me. I believe it's important to have books dedicated to World of Warcraft that delve into the game's events and provide additional insights. However, what bothered me was that the events in this book remained somewhat obscure unless you actually read it. I felt that unless you were able to read between the lines of in-game quests, the outcome of this book would remain a mystery, creating a slight disconnection. Now, I understand that this is not the author's fault. Their storytelling was top-notch. But as someone who spends hours immersed in the game on a regular basis, I felt like this particular story didn't quite fit into the game format. On the flip side, the writing of the book was superb. I can't even count how many times I shed tears while reading certain parts. It was amazing to see how events could be depicted so differently, and it even helped me comprehend how something so heartbreaking could ultimately bring people together. The narrator did a pretty solid job, effectively capturing different tones and voices for the characters with the resources available. I definitely recommend giving it a listen or even reading it yourself.
  • The world of Warcraft is vast and diverse, brimming with fantastical characters, mystical magic, and ancient malevolence. However, it sometimes suffers from a lack of a central theme, and tries to fit in every possible fantasy archetype to expand its online realm. To bring all these elements together, it requires restraint and discipline, which unfortunately is lacking in Golden's writing. Her characters are unrealistically powerful, possess the moral compass of a liberal in 2016, and display the emotional maturity of a 12-year-old girl. Their dialogue is oddly modern, and it feels like every character (except the half-baked villain) is essentially the same, just with a different appearance. The end result is more akin to a poorly written fanfiction than a professionally published novel. If you're desperately seeking to bridge the gaps between WoW expansions, it's better to read a summary and save yourself the trouble.
  • I really enjoyed this book and it had me hooked from start to finish. I was so engrossed in the story that I didn't even want to leave my car. It perfectly sets the stage for the warlords expansion, making it a must-read for any World of Warcraft fan.
