Summary
YOUNGER NEXT YEAR draws on the very latest science of aging to show how men 50 or older can become functionally younger every year for the next five to ten years, and continue to live like fifty-year-olds until well into their eighties. To enjoy life and be stronger, healthier, and more alert. To stave off 70% of the normal decay associated with aging (weakness, sore joints, apathy). and to eliminate over 50% of all illness and potential injuries. This is the real thing, a program that will work for anyone who decides to apply himself to "Harry's Rules."
Crowley and Lodge have really impressed me with their work on 'Younger Next Year: A Guide to Living Like 50 Until You're 80 and Beyond'. I have gained a lot of knowledge from this book, and it has genuinely transformed my life.
The insights into why our bodies enter a "winter-famine" mode on the typical American diet (and how to combat it), as well as the advice on signaling our cells to thrive instead of deteriorate (through 45 minutes of exercise six times a week for the rest of our lives!) are absolutely captivating. They truly motivate me. Now armed with this valuable information, I have no trouble dedicating an hour every day to either cardio or strength training; previously, I couldn't understand why it was necessary. Harry is exactly the kind of doctor I wish I had, and as for Chris, well, he's quite a character. He may be a bit self-absorbed and neurotic, but he's amusing most of the time, even if he overestimates himself - which is oddly relatable to me!
I highly recommend this book to anyone aged 45 and above who wants to maintain their youthful spirit all the way up to age 100.
I honestly don't get the hype around this book! It was so dull, I couldn't even bear to listen to it while getting my teeth worked on...I found the sound of the drill more thrilling! As a woman in her late forties, I completely agree with the main idea of the book. But seriously, how many times do you need to hear "exercise six days a week for an hour?" There's absolutely nothing fresh or innovative in this book.
Out of all the non-fiction titles I've listened to over the past few years, 'Younger Next Year: A Guide to Living Like 50 Until You're 80 and Beyond' has become my personal favorite. In fact, ever since I started listening to this book, I've been motivated to exercise every day for the past four months. It may sound cliché, but this book has truly had a profound impact on my life. Unlike some other reviewers, I actually enjoy the narration by Chris Crowley. It keeps me engaged and I find it enjoyable to listen to. As a clinical psychologist, I have even recommended the audiobook version to several of my patients.
I had a great time reading this book - it made me laugh, taught me valuable lessons, and sparked interesting conversations. It provides a humorous yet honest perspective on life in the later years. My wife is currently enjoying the women's edition and we're enjoying discussing what she's learning from it. It's helping us connect on a deeper level and addressing topics that would otherwise be challenging to discuss.
The banter between Harry and Chris is hilarious, and their advice is incredibly insightful. I wish I could go into more detail, but I've got to hit the gym now...
As a woman in my forties, I don't quite fit the target audience for this book, but I must say, I absolutely adored it. The author does a fantastic job of explaining the intricacies of aging in a way that is easily understandable and incredibly motivating. The benefits of exercise are also presented in a clear and appealing manner. What I particularly appreciated about this book was its emphasis on prioritizing health over appearance, as well as its straightforward and relatable tone. Not only did it provide me with valuable information, but it also had me laughing out loud. Thanks to this book, I now find it much easier to incorporate healthy habits like proper nutrition and regular exercise into my daily routine. I'm confident that if I can convince my husband to give it a listen, he'll enjoy it just as much as I did.
Geared towards men, this audiobook strikes a great balance between motivational content and providing the reasoning behind the program's effectiveness. Instead of giving direct instructions on exercise routines (which can be found in other resources), the authors passionately emphasize why you shouldn't put off starting. Regardless of whether you're in your 50s, 60s, or 70s, it's never too late to begin. In fact, this audiobook is specifically tailored for you. Even if you're under 50 but approaching that milestone, you'll gain insight into the long-term benefits of embracing a consistent exercise regimen and proactively preparing for your later years. It's all about making the final third of your life just as enjoyable as the middle third!
Although targeted towards a male audience, I discovered that this book offers incredibly valuable information presented in a compelling manner. The frequent use of "man to man" dialogue was slightly uncomfortable, but overall, I highly recommend it to my female friends, with a small grain of salt. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it!
